    Scan tools

    Hey,

I've got a couple of average scan tools that seem to not be able to connect with some cars that are meant to be compatible.

Is it the tool or the car causing the problem?

Looking at an upgrade anyway! Is anyone using a live stream type setup via a laptop or iphone? Seems like a good idea but dunno if its a gimmick or not!

Preferably to support MUTII, OBD and whatever most euros use at a lot don't work on my tool. Does such thing exist?

    Thanks

I got one of them bluetooth elm obd2 thingies and paired it to my phone to try torque. It works fine, not THAT responsive but it does the job.

For iphone, you can either do it wirelessly only on wifi (Apple didn't allow some data bullshit through BT) or the cabled version from GoPoint (~$US$100). Wifi dongles you can get for cheap (~US$70) from dx.com though the program that only works with the cabled version is DashCommand that's like $60. Jailbreak it and download it through Installous coz I reckon it's too expensive for what it is. Custom read outs requires a PC (if you're in Mac, then go dig out your old PC), and a level of knowledge of creating dials, read outs as well as a lot of luck if you're pulling obscure data. Plus it sucks trying to update the "dash" because you actually need to jailbreak the phone to do it or otherwise dashcommand only lets you update once a day which is absolutely annoying. Btw, there is live logging on dash command but I've never used it.

I'd say avoid Dashcommand and see if the wifi version for Rev might be better. I'm just stuck with dashcommand because it doesn't work with the cabled type.
