    T28 differences

    Hey kids

    I'll be looking for a cheap s/hand T28 shortly. While I'm buying though, I'd like to pick the 'best' one. So what's the go... S13, S14, S14A, S15, GTiR etc... what is what, what's best, how to identify, what to run & hide from, etc.

    Turbo is to support 220rwhp at around 10psi. The only other thing I may consider is the single turbo off a late model 1JZGTE. They seem to get pretty good reviews...

    I also intend to sit on my hands until such time as I can buy one for three dollars and half a can of coke from boostcruising.

    later s14 and s15 turbos with ball bearing core. from memory (i must have a shit memory, was looking at one with a mate an hour ago lol) the ball bearing turbos are identifiable by the 6 bolts holding on the exhaust housing, bush bearing ones have only 4 bolts or some shit

    s13 didnt come with t28.
    only the JDM s14 and s15 have ball bearing turbo's, rest are bush bearing.
    gti-r turbo has a bigger exhaust housing for more top end boost but worse spool... presuming this is going on a 1.6/1.8L i'd avoid it.

    Try find a good second hand "Disco Potato" good all round power, no lag, but only good to 15psi then they go pop.

    for 220rwhp it won't matter which of the variants you buy really. Hell, even a T25 might do that with better response. Look for an S14 T28 or slightly better - an S15 T28

    Only the S15s got them.

    Part number on the turbo tells the story. It's a small plate in between the compressor and turbine housings.

    14411-91F00 is ball bearing
    14411-69F00 is plain bearing

    kinda..Earlier models not later..
    6 speed manual cars built between Jan 1999 and Oct 2000 got the ball bearing turbo and cars built after this got the non ball bearing turbo. 6-bolt housing means it's ball bearing and a 4 bolt housing means it's non ball bearing.
    The later models got bush bearing

    14411-75F00 is plain bearing, used Nov 2000 onwards
