    Datsun RB30/26 track hack

What I have is a Datsun 200b SSS, that I have owned for a very long time, and had alot of different ideas on what to do with it, but I have now started on making it a Supersprint/hillclimb/trackday car and mabe down the track enter into Sports sedans.
It has beeen stripped and acid dipped, and is currently on a Rotisserie so I can seam welding and do all the underside stuff.

I have been collecting parts for a bit now, so its time to get stuck into it.

Over the last few weeks I have fabed up some front larger wheel tubs, to clear the bigger rubber. I have sent off the RB30 block for machining, and started stripping the RB26 head. The block will be built with forged rods/pistons/bearing and studs, and the head will be standard with oversized valves an bigger cams. I also have a dry sump pump ready to be mounted and have started on the dry sump pan.

    Plans.
RB30/26DET Dry Sump, Built bottom end, Rebuilt head with Cams, E85, Bigger injectors, Large single turbo, Autronic
    Gearbox ????
Rear end is a modified 350Z subframe, and arms
    Winters IRS quick change
    Performance Friction Brakes
    Modified S14 front end
    Cage
    18x9.5 Enkei F1 Front
    18x10.5 Enkei F1 rear
    V mount Radiator
    Carbon panels

And there is more that will be posted along the way

I'll try and get some photos up to start with.

    Scott

This looks like it'll be interesting. Sounds pretty serious for a track hack, sure your not going to Sports Sedans straight away?

I want to keep it looking pretty for a couple of years, before racing door to door.

That all should work, just set the engine as far back as you can. Nose heavy cars are not good for circuit stuff.

The whole engine is just behind the front axle, so i'm hoping the weight balance wont be to bad. My seat will also be back about 300-400 mm from the standard location.

Sounds good, all you need now is a nice stiff chassis.

    OK... in on one.

I presume you anticipate a fair bit of rubber outside of the line of the standard guards, will you be trying to keep it within that (I think it is) 10cm max they allow you to flare the arches for Sports Sedans... or do you purely give no fark for rules?

Yea i'm only going to be 90mm wider than the standard guard, I'm using a 100mm flair that is higher on the guards, so that brings the total in a bit.

Are you still going to run your coil overs in the standard strut position or are you moving them inboard?

It works out that I can run the coilovers in the standard top postion with adjustable camber tops built in, and still get a 275mm tyre under the flair with room to move. If im chasing a larger tyre on the front later, I'm also going to be making some adjustable control arms for a bit of extra tweeking.

I made up a jig today to use to narrow the 350z subframe and make the munts for the diff. Used some coil-over sleeves and clamped the frame using the coilover nuts. Made it super easy to get dead square and level. I have to get hold of some aluminium plate to make the diff mounts from, then weld up and i'm also going to strenthen the suspention mounting points.
The subframe will be mounted in the car on a similar set up to the jig bench, i'm using coilover style tubes, so that I can adjust the rear subframe hight and angle to playwith roll centres.

Would you happen to know how wide the 350z rear end is compared to a 32 gtr rear end? like wheel track wise?

I'll have to check, I have it written down somewhere, I have narrowed the sub frame by about 80mm to fit my car.

I have a bit of an update, I have been making the mounts for the diff into the 350Z sub frame. I ended up using some 10mm and 12mm aluminium plate and cutting it up on my band saw, and fucking around of ages to make it fit. I'll attach a couple of photos, It is only just tacked together at the moment.
