Mark there are a few standards in regard to shell thickness of the helmet, have a look on the HANS website.

Hope the bloke recovers OK, sounds like a nasty hit. Not sure why anyone would want to race something like a Yaris, to each their own I guess.

Bugger wet tracks, friend pranged his 240Z at Morgan Park in the rain. Nothing to gain and everything to lose.

Wonder where HRD is, with all this "emotive" talk about safety gear to give you a chance.
    Seemingly quiet it seems.
    Cardiac arrest or not.

Any pre Snell 2010 can be fitted with the older stule posts. Newer helmets , some, do have the moulded in threaded reciever for the pst 2010 helmets.
Plenty of pdf's on fitting both.
if you get this far after reading the above, good on you!
If i make spelling mistakes, syntax errors, or just mss letters in words, it is because i am lw vision/vision impaired.
Dont drive or race no more. Bit of a cunt of a thing.
I cant see what keys my fingers hit when i type.
Its called Cone and Rod Dystrophy, un fixable, i get worse, its a hereditary cunt f a thing.

I use this question everytime I think about my rx8. It might not be fast, but it sure as hell will be fun.

Hope the driver has a speedy recovery.

The Yaris is pretty quick, wins a lot of stuff in its class and beats a lot of 'bigger' cars.

Glad the driver is ok. The investment in safety gear seems to have paid off.

You have banned someone from this section for having a differing opinion to everyone else? If so that is ridiculous. You need to remember that opinions are like arseholes and that everyone has one. This thread has certainly displayed that.

He pisses a lot of people off and trolls. He's fine when he calms down and he's getting that opportunity. The discussions are going just fine without him.

    hrd banned? Are you serial?
All I've seen was differing opinions. And each is surely entitled to differing opinions? I know he's been around the block more than a few times and in that time he has no doubt been blessed to have formed his own opinions. Isn't one of the cornerstones of any good dicussion differences in opinion?

Did I mention that's my opinion yet?

Agree that the HRD ban is unwarranted by any standard I can think of, if things are going to be discussed and not bandwagoned then the input from experienced motorsport blokes like him is valuable, irrespective of who agrees with it or not.

The thing about a Yaris or something similar is that it would be smart to use all the safety gear around because there is not much crumple zone in front. Olde fashioned long bonnet cars FTW.

I venture to say that this fellow may have been lucky he was in a modern small car like a Yaris and NOT an ancient old car like a Mini.

Yep, they're far better designed to take big impacts. It's unfortunately why little cars like that are much heavier than they used to be but they are massively better at taking shunts.
It's also why when I drove past it when leaving the track I didn't think it was that bad; with an 'old' car it would have been a prang maybe half that speed.

Wehther it's a Yaris, a 280ZX, a Silvia, a Escort, what is very common to this is that,
Lakeside Park is, and always has been, one of a number of circuits that can cause car damage, which, in a lot of cases, causes human damage, some bad, some not so bad.
If we have the ability to give ourselves a little more capability to reduce human body damage, we should avail ourselves of this.
Unfortunately buying the items is costly, in Austealia, but the benefit of the WWW's gives access to lower cost same items.

QR management ( third hand news!) is negotiatiing to buy a large qty of the USA NexGen brace units, these are, i think SFI rated, but not sure on FIA rated, QR is purported to be selling them for approx $500+ AUD

SFI or FIA, anything is better than nothing! However, until the NexGen units are FIA rated, not sure on what a CAMS scrutineer will say, re elegibility due to lack of fire capability, the tethers, the fixing items, again better than nothing!

You can purchase direct from USA the NexGen, around $300 USD.
if you get this far after reading the above, good on you!

Ah, I'd hazard a guess that they are still using people at the flag points, just they push buttons instead of waving flags.

Could be they do activate the lights, but there is/was no blue flag waving. Driver briefing advised that it is QR policy that the overtaking driver is fully responsible for the safe pass. One way radio comms for basically red/yellow/black flags to back up the lights.
Question though, was it AASA policy to wave blue to all vehicles being passed or only lapped ones?

My experience at the sprints is flag points are manned if they have enough men. If not then lights only with look outs at the tower and exit of karosel as its obstructed.

    edit:
Looking around at harnesses that work with HANS. I noticed there are 3/2" shoulder belts that say HANS compatable. The HANS website says 2" and 3" belts are ok, just the 3" belts curl up the brace a little. So I cna pretty much grab any 2", 3" or 3/2" harness and be fine with either option? HANS website pretty much says I can drill posts into any helmet provided I follow their guide to fine the hole location?

HANS work fine with 3" belts, strapped plenty of drivers into cars with them.
