    Yeah George,

The lakeside tips are fugly, but super keen to do more laps there and did spy a number of treatments like this. Wish I had grabbed some pics. Far less subtle than my effort. The track managers donít seem to care. As long as you are under the measured limit, it doesnít seem to matter how you get there.

PXL, I was told when I was there they are off to the left hand side of the track at Hungry as you go up the rise. But if I have it wrong they are v banded so will swivel. There is a decent chance the muffs alone would have got the job done but donít want to take any chances.

Sound like they have moved them then.

If worse comes to worse and the have one each side at least you can cross the tips over .... Would look really shit though....

The TimeAttack officials really banged on about becoming increasingly strict on noise limits on Saturday just gone. They mentioned it might even be dropped to 85 dB in the near future to try keep the track open.

Apparently, old mate used to be involved in grassroots Motorsport but has grown tired of the noise over time. QR are erecting noise barriers, hopefully it works as Lakeside is an incredible track, even to the beginner.

PXL, not sure. All will be revealed Sunday I guess. As you say, options there to fine tune if I don't get the result I need.

Cliffs, 85dB will not be a great outcome. Each reduction in dB takes a quantum leap in baffling in the exhaust apparently. Glad to hear they are looking to actually build some other sound controls. Its a cracking track. Would be a real shame to lose the asset. Not sure there are many people out there putting their nuts on the block to build new ones if this one goes. with all the media harping on about hoons, you think there would be some weight and govco support behind having legit off street outlets.

Nice on Guido. What are you driving? will keep an eye out and come say hi. Porsche club are running a couple of groups so i will be rolling with those wankers

Monza, it was as slippery as a butchers prick in some parts. the old VW normally struggles to turn the rear tyres. Will upload a slightly drier run at some point.

^^^ Roger. Should be easy to spot.

Bit of in car from a slightly drier run. The increased grip meant many of the slower corner went from second to 3rd gear corners which kind of threw anything I learnt in the wet out the window. Hopefully get back there in November and chase a flat or sub 60 sec run. Will be a stretch, but if its dry and I start to put it all together its something to shoot for.

Monza. I have pedalled my tredly up it a few times. Itís most definitely a decent hill climb upwards. Just checked cycling data. Around 5% average grade. I think the wide angle camera distorts the inclination and the radius of the curves. Itís pretty tight in places.

    Cheers Marlin,

And funny you mention that Mr Rust. The old STI RA did give me a taste for how good a quick rack can be. In the case of the porka it was an easy fix. Quaife do a replacement quick rack and pinion. Straight replacement for the factory parts. So it has one of them in it. One of the benefits of playing with a platform thatís been round a while. Plenty of aftermarket parts. Although no power steering in this one. But the pretty light front end seems to make it manageable. Although I might reconsider that if I ever get around to doing a properly long tarmac rally stage.

Yeah, its weird. I don't feel like I am busy behind the wheel, but the in car seems to suggest otherwise. Was always much smoother in the old Tommi Mac Evo. Much less pizza making. I think the amount of feedback you get through the wheel in this kind of encourages you to do more with the wheel. A bit go kart like in that regard maybe....

    Cheers Cal,

Itís makes decent useable power (dyno said 320odd hp at the tyres) and has a reasonable lack of mass as well 😁. For me I think the lack of weight along with the amount of tyre under the rear is where the magic is. It went surprisingly well even when it had about 90hp less. But the extra grunt does mean it doesnít give as much away as it used to point to point.

This car is off tap, and fuck you can steer it. 56.7 at Lakeside is silly for a street rego'd car! I hope you had some fun today.

    Cheers Guido (aka Sam)

Was great to chat trackside and meet my first QLD PF Cunt in person. On point with the MX5 keeping a lid on the spend and getting maximum performance. Mega bang for buck and driving the tyres off it.

What a cracking track. You really know you are alive through that back sector leading up to Hungry. I think itís the best short track I have driven. Just no rest. You are busy everywhere. And so challenging and unforgiving. I am hooked.

PS Clutch (aka another Sam?) it was a PCQ sprint day among the open sprint day. 😁

The nopics grabbed some potato cam footage with some PF commentary. Found as I got my shit together through the back section I was hitting the limiter in 4th earlier and earlier as Sam points out. . Might have to bump it up to 7500. Thankfully itís a soft cut and doesnít upset the car.

Am uploading in car but seem to be on the equivalent of dial up so expect that in about a week or so.

So a bit of incar below,

still being impatient with the 1970's VW gearbag. Really hard to break the habit of years of slick shifting JDM synchro boxes. Fkn baulk rings? Even Porsche worked out they were a shit idea and went to bog warmer synchros in the G50. Just have to try and slow my shifts and be more deliberate. Old mate in the cup cars slicks were a bit slow to come on so had to lift out a bit after a lap and give him a bit more of a gap. Felt like I was holding it flat through the kink on the back section but there is definitely a little comfort lift there. Probably the most exciting part of the track for me. You are really carrying speed and it gets quite bumpy. Glad to have sorted my dB issues. Keen to get back for more laps.

I did a stupid thing in the lead up to the event. Had about E45 in it from topping up with 98 on the way back from Noosa. So rather than drain it I thought I would go for a drive with a 20l tin of E85 in the car and run it really low then tip that in. I noted in the later sessions it got a bit of a miss in a couple of corners under acceleration. Might have hurt the fuel pump. Will have to check the logs. Will look to throw a new pump and filter at it prior to the next event at Morgan park in July. Its been in there for a couple of years now so probably cant hurt to life it.

Oh and got a police escort or tail to be more precise to the track. They came the other way just as I was about to turn left into the final short road to Lakeside. Brake lights on. Roof lights on. I gave it a quick squirt to get round the corner to the Lakeside road then just cruised down to the track. They came around other cars, got behind me, I imagine did a numberplate read, followed me into the circuit so I pulled up. They just U turned and fucked off. No idea what was going on. I guess just a reg and license check? Was a relief as I will have challenges if a cop takes a close look at it with full rego currently on it. I think the silly wing attracts the extra attention. Will be towing it out to Morgan Park.

FUCK ME 56.7. That is so fast. I was hoping I could crack a 58 on my second visit but 56s is unreal. What tyres are you on currently?

And agree tow to Morgan Park for many reasons. I used to drive to Lakeside but that's because I lived in Joyner

What the actual fuck? 2nd outing at the most daunting circuit in the country and you turn a 56.7 on semis. I doubt I've ever been so gobsmacked in my life. Awesome stuff.

    Cheers Gents,

Luke I am on yokie A050ís. Medium rear (295ís) and soft fronts.(235ís) The amount of rubber under the rear really helps. They seemed to be offering good grip at Lakeside. Like you, I am happy with the drive there despite it being about 40 minutes. Even Noosa was Ok. But fuck 200kms in it to Morgan Park. Give me a quiet car with climate control and tunes and an easy way home should I have a mechanical. Plan to get the no pics out in her car there too.

Cal, am humbled by your comments. ... and I am as surprised as you. Would never thought it had that much improvement in it over the 59 it did previously. But I think the tarmac rally style suspension setup I have in it does help through the fast bumpy sections and it seems the gear ratios etc seem to suit the track.

Will get an order in to Kebab and give it a birthday before Morgan Park. Fresh engine oil and filter and new fuel pump and filter. Gear oil should be fine as it was just changed and has the cooler now. Didnít seem to get heat affected. Used to get a bit notch after a good track flogging but seems fine after this one.

Mr Rust. Itís a 330 with some dish to bring it closer. Havenít noticed my knees hitting it prior. Suit is a bit puffy so might just be it grazing it?

No funds for ďinsert expensive box hereĒ so will just have to persevere with this one and try and get on top of shifting it with a bit more sympathy.
