I think the series pays too much lip service to the backwards-thinking knuckledraggers, which hampers the commercial viability of anything other than Ford and Holden being part of the series.

Probably because the knuckledraggers will go to the event and buy the merch, where as the non-boneheads will only go if they get free corporate passes so they can post photos of themselves on insta/snapchat drinking two buck chuck out of a plastic flute.

My thought is the main thing stopping other manufacturer involvement is relevance/leverage to products. Look at Nissan for example - the Altima may have fit the rule structure but how do you leverage the race track Altima to a product which is essentially a LWB Pulsar? Hence Kia may actually be a proper fit - the Stinger fits the format and the product fits the target audience.

Neither of which are no longer sold here...

The inclusion of coupes should've happened for 2013 when the COTF came online, allowing a chassis design that is more universal than the current one.

I thought it was a real shame to see Volvo walk away the way they did, and Merc never giving any backing to Erebus made it hard too. If those two manufacturers stuck around / put some effort in, I dare say many more would have jumped on the bandwagon too. Now itís back to everyone sitting on the sidelines wondering whether itís worth it or not.

I thought some of the issue with supercars of late is the opposite - trying to make it a female/family friendly haven, when in reality motor sport in general is a mans sport.

Precisely. Same with the Falcon. So thats 2 out of 3 that arent relevant.

I dare say opening up to coupes would interest a lot more manufacturers. Nissan for eg would actually have a relevant product they could enter [GTR], but at which point does it basically become GT3/GT4?

Volvo...well, you only need to look at their current TV commercials to see the direction they are going.

Would love to see more brands involved but I think there's too much development in the series for it to be viable. Supercars needs to figure out if they want to be a parity series or not. If they want to keep going like it is now, that's fine, but don't expect much interest from other brands.

Do the punters care about the engineering efforts needed to build a proper front running Supercar? Will they care if BOP or a true parity approach is used? Because Supercars must be a real hard sell at the moment, why would you spend squillions to run at the back when you can build a GT3 car and instantly have your brand be competitive and held in high regard?

Because the 7 fans that turn up to watch GT3 don't equate to good exposure for spend.

    Worldwide, I mean.

And more interested in the actual 'how' and 'why' GT3 (or GT racing in general) ends up with such a diverse field of many manufacturers, but won't touch Supercars with a 10-foot pole?

Could it be that most of GT3 is paid for by gentleman drivers?

A GT3 car can be raced all over the world opening the doors to many series and races. Hence the economies of building one make sense if you can not only leverage that for marketing worldwide and also make money off spare parts and customer support.

On the other hand a Supercar programme costs millions of dollars and can only be raced here. Your Australian arm of said manufacturer would be the only one benefitting from it. Not just that but youíd be tipping in money without any money coming back like what customer support does in GT3. And all that spend and investment for a one market thatís a big ask these days for any manufacturer.

GT3 looks expensive but makes a hell of a lot of sense when you look at it globally.

    GT3/4 and TCR is competitor-centric.

That it has a fanbase is purely coincidental, and a nice bonus to the promotors.

Supercars, whilst doing its best to service the teams with TV deals and what-not, is entertainment/fanbase-driven.

What are crowd numbers like at the Bathurst 12hr? What would they be like if it became the premier category of aus? Dont get me wrong Im not a fan of the GT3 spec cars but at the same time I get the argument that they could potentially bring overseas interest in.

Theres always this push about developing a car to suit a category to involve more manufacturers but history tells us that the largest factory involvements have come from loosing up the rules and letting the manufacturers develop the car to suit the rules. Why cant we go back to the drawing board and redevelop/refine Group A rules? Surely its going to interest more manufacturers being closely related to their road going volume products rather than being essentially a silhouette of something their product isnt?

Before someone says yeah but they will be slow and the racing will be shit they said that when Group B got canned; ironically, the Group A WRC period was one of the fiercest and most populated.

GT3 worldwide = ring Porsche/Ferrari/Lambo/McLaren etc, hand over $500k, get ready to run car.

Can run a season anywhere in the world with a very small support crew.

A V8 team is a massive operation in comparison - even the small guys are probably 40-50 guys? You need a much bigger operation to buy a drive compared to a rich dude wanting to go racing in GT3.

Cost containment I'm assuming. Twin spring has been around for ages though, and they banned it from DVS/Super2 for cost reasons.
I think the top teams will still be the top teams, but the smaller teams then can't complain about the costs of development of the twin springs.

Yeah, not that surprising. Pretty sure Blanchard wasn't that interested in spending a bucketload for someone else to race. I suspect BJR did a cutprice deal to keep Cooldrive as the main sponsor - they won't make as much money, but they probably won't be paying Macca anything to drive either.

Yeah, but I doubt he's on much higher than award wages. The trade off being he gets to drive.

Yeah, they just hang around until they can strike a deal elsewhere.

Tander and Bargwanna were the same. Both worked for Garry Rogers, at his car dealership in lieu of a driving gig.

No big surprise after the shit he flung at them recently. Real team building stuff..I can understand his frustration with being stuck in the Tickford version of the Kelly Krate but getting up them in the media is not the best way to do it.

Has the talent no doubt. Doesn't look like an real option for a seat now other than a co-drive.
