Looks sick, but I dunno why they used the 2J, they should be demonstrating the potentials of the original unit..thats like the A80 coming out in 93, and HKS chucking out the 2J for a 7M

60k brand new. Did not end up buying it as just wasnt inspiring enough for the coin.

N55 is inferior to B58 (M140i), power, reliability, design, emissions. The overview docs came out in 2016 with manufacturer dyno plots. Either you accept the incoming depreciation. If you depended on it, you'd be stupid to think they won't put that motor in the F series M2 at some point. Instead, it got something arguably better.
M235i is another example. 70k car 3 years ago. Manuals were sparse, especially in a non-lease spec white/black/silver car. 35-45k car now. 50% depreciation, lol. The 40i / B58 and to an extent N55 M2, killed their value.
To sum up, the N55 M2 took a small hit with the M140i variants
Took another hit when it was confirmed the N55 would no longer be feasible for the remaining production run.
A bigger hit when it was confirmed the S55 would drop in rather than a tuned/tech updated B58.

A trans flash/tune will probably rectify the Supra gearbag. If someone tried hard enough (clearly, not me), the M240iR flash could probably be used on it. There needs to be more reviews combined with reverse engineering/modification which will only happen with time. Not many cunts are going to keep this car a factory grand tourer like it presents itself.
You seem to know lots about BMW engines. Why does the S55 sound so horribly awful?

Is the B58 better than the S55? (Certainly sounds better). I see there is a S58 too?

Haha no idea! All these newer than the N54 have solenoids, gears, rocker arms that control the throttle directly at the inlet valve; "valvetronic". Valvetronic isn't bulletproof either. Maybe they do something different with the S55 to keep the turbo shaft speeds high enough for response. As for why they sound like shit at WOT... Could be twin vs single and the required manifold piping to make each system work. Don't even know if their cams or valve timing profiles are wildly different. In the cabin with the fake sound it wasn't bad imo.
B series are based on diesel blocks but not heavy iron. Good for much boosts, closed deck block, long stroke, shorter AWIC intake tract. The cylinder spacing and bores are the same between the 4/6cyls. It also doesn't cook itself after 2 laps.
Some other small simpleness like mechanical waterpump.

    S55 shit list:
spun crank hubs -> piston meet valve.
    AWIC leaks and hydrolocks motor.
Bespoke closed deck version of the N55
Shitload of coolers and aux rads along with proper aero/ducting thrown at it to get temperatures manageable.
    sound

    B58/S58 has a new crank pulley/hub design.

I recall the M2 release coincided with the M140i and new B58. I believed the LCI M2 would end up with that motor eventually. There was no chance the N55 would get budget to add a particulate filter to keep it going, a non-N55 M2 was inevitable. - it was one of the, if not, the very last car in the lineup to run it. I'd be happy with either B58/S55. Just get some extended warranty cover on the S55. Carry on and and bang gears

None of them have hydraulic steering though fuck EPS!

B58 seems pretty bulletproof, but runs out of turbo and fuel around 500hp, less on e85.
Turbo is an easy fix but fuel system upgrades aren't available yet so people just spray meth or fuel in the charge pipe.

S55s are pretty stout but like to spin crank hubs and the intercoolers can leak which can cause some pretty big problems.
    They also sound bad.

S55 makes more power easier, think it's a combo of
-twin turbos having higher flow potential
    -better flowing head
    -less over square design happier to rev (B58: 82 mm 94.6 mm, S55: 84mm x 89.6mm)
-Lower compression ratio so will happily take more boost (B58: 11:1, S55: 10.2:1)
-and most importantly better fuel system (twin High pressure fuel pumps)

S58 is looking like it should be the best of both.

I'm liking what I'm hearing here. Thinking at this stage I'll just keep my M140i for 3-4 years after the end of the repayments and spend a quarter of what I'd normally spend upgrading it on a Quaife LSD, Akrapovic Exhaust and suspension.

I like Harris style, but I was disappointed with that. I got nothing more than what a twelvie on the net can tell us. Plus I think the Supra name is way overhyped - without the aftermarket the A80 would have simply been "a good car" and not much else.

Agree - it's hideous with the red "trim"

Plus there's some random stain on the side of the console already - possibly a fanboy getting a bit over-excited?
