Headed to Winton at the end of the month. Unsure whether to drive down on the 17s (which will scrub with tools and shit in the back) or throw them on the roof racks.

I think the wheels on the roof rack might attract the wrong attention though.

Itís around 800km round trip. Probably should trailer it but whereís the fun in that.

Could you put two in the cabin and lie two flat on the roof racks? That would be a bit more discreet.

And why do the 17s scrub on the road loaded with tools? Surely they must scrub on the track too

Your car is still going, that's good news. Why not go to Phillip Island? 509km's closer and more fun. I remember asking at Haunted hills why you would choose this model car, and you replied it cost a grand. There is no come back to that, lol.

I notice the scrubbing on the high speed bumps, which would include belting kerbs at the track too I guess. Probably a sign of not enough high speed compression damping or spring rate. The internet suggests I go heavier in the spring rate esp the rear, but I think if I was going to start doing that I should buy higher end coil overs to start with.

My coil overs do have a damping adjustment but Iíd say itís pretty fucking basic, I havenít seen an exploded diagram of it.

PI is definitely closer but I suppose Iím a little daunted with being a rolling roadblock as this car has about the same top end performance as a decent sized tractor. Iíd hope for under a 2min lap tho, surely thatís achievable.

I did some laps on a Supermoto bike of PI, 165ish thru the speed trap is all that it would do. Think this thing would do a little more with the downhill into t1

PI will be the next track day if the car survives the Winton trip.

Really should be towing it there next weekend.

Got another 2 spare axles today, theyíll come in handy Iím sure.

Picked up this 328i sedan with rego off the 2nd owner (had it 20 years) for a fair price (1500 with rego)

After Winton Iíll swap my ďgoodĒ bits over and manual trans.

Seems a shame to destroy such a tidy car but theyíre worthless.

Hang on, I've lost the thread here. Are you putting the running gear from the silver two door into this blue four door?

That 328i does look pretty neat. What's wrong with it?

And we're up to 4 cars now (1 + 3 donors)? Love it.

Iíll take my coil overs, brake lines, stiff bushings, seat and wheel and put them in the 328.

Things I picked on when I checked the car was a couple of oil leaks (filter housing, valve cover), power steer leak, fucked rear shocks, roof lining sagged and the sunroof wants some love.

The owner was a retired accountant who was selling it to buy a kia Sorrento

Went 1:44.326 at Winton. Locked diff a definite disadvantage here. So much push. 143 down the main straight.

39 laps but didnít have any dramas which was nice.

Iíll bet it understeered in the boobs and other slow corners. A bit late now, but worth disconnecting the front sway bar in that situation if you have no other means of adjusting the front to rear roll stiffness ratio.

Have t stripped the interior yet, but not far off track ready. Big improvement in straight line pace.

All suspension swapped over, just need brake pads and new fluid. Oh and swap the gearbox over.
