    Nice work mang! Fitting a rear wheel solo the first time can be a cunt until you figure out the best way (taking in to account any specific traits between bikes). I still fondly remember the stream of curse words I was able to muster the first time I ever popped a rear wheel out.

    yeah this one was surprisingly easier than the Honda. Most of the spacers/washers stayed in nicely.

    Brakes are in, and they work.

    I did a test ride around by closed private personal test track, and yes, I'm lucky my arms didn't get ripped out of their sockets.

    A few small things to do, and rego in early August.

    Almost done.



    I had most of the fairings off, to clean up underneath, make sure everything is tight and in order, and to do some final touch ups.


    New pads arrived.


    aren't they cute,


    kinda strange setup with 4 small pads rather than two bigger ones, pop em in.


    Make sure they are all locked and loaded, and bleed again.


    final polish and wax while it's all off


    and a touch up on the scratch marks visible above, and a new sticker is coming from Ze Vaterland.

    Wednesday we go for the blue slip, and hopefully plates

    and the day after I get a text from bikebiz saying the sticker arrived.

    heh



    The old one came off in a strange way,
    i peeled off the top layer, which was 100% clear, but all of the text stayed on in a sticky mess underneath.


    not to bother, some good chemicals and elbow grease cleaned it up nicely.


    good as new


    so, it's done.
    What better timing than to go for a blue slip and make it all legal.



    My faithful mechanic gave it a good checking over, and passed with flying colours.




    then we wait at the local RMS

    and we have plates.


    so, first commute to work.


    Hmm, rear tyres are Dunlop Q3s which are decent, have plenty of tread, and less than 4 years old..
    however, even in rain mode, it can't put the power down at anything more than 7000rpm.
    and yeah, power is a bit sillly. I'm not even scratching the surface of what this thing can do and it's already a wild ride.

    Feels really good though, quick shifter is farken amazing, sounds so epic too. Filtering is a snap, fold the mirrors in and away you go.
    And, best of all, it feels super nimble. As easy to move around (maybe even more so) than the CBR was. P test slalom course is a snap.

    But it's not perfect. Riding it around I'm not entirely confident with 3 things,
    the brakes, the forks and the tyres.

    so she sleeps.


    I'll warm the tyres up a bit more, and play with the fork settings and see how it goes, but I feel I'll be getting a new set of rubber and forks rebuilt sooner rather than later.

    I've done over 600kms on this now.
    And I'm still undecided on how long I plan to keep it.
    I do however, 110% know that I really enjoy riding it.

    I've commuted on it to work (25kms each way) in Sydney traffic, and it handles it fine. It's super easy to filter with the mirrors folded in:



    and I've been keeping relatively sane with the power.




    It obviously doesn't have a mega low/torquey bottom end, but still pulls away pretty easily from anything under 4000rpm.
    Below about 6000rpm its fine, not too far from my CBR really, but that was at like 15000rpm for the same performance.
    But then, yeah give some throttle at more than 6000rpm and things turn into light speed very rapidly. First week or so I left it in Rain mode, which gives you max 60% throttle, and smooths everything out nicely. Even then it was pretty nuts, would want to lift the front at anything more than 6k rpm and half throttle, or spin the rear, i guess when the road surface wasn't perfect or tyres weren't warm enough.

    I did the first nasho run on it last Sunday, and that was an interesting experience.


    I was exploring the handling a little bit more than I do on my regular rides, but not much faster on the corners than I was taking the CBR. The tyres still have some pretty big and what seem hard chicken strips, so it's a matter of gently leaning over every so slightly further and further. When it turned into the 80zone passed a few cars with what i thought was full throttle in 2nd then 3rd, shifting with the quick shifter obviously. It ahh got up to some big numbers in the blink of an eye, and I was giggling like a school kid seeing his first pair of boobies.

    I do want to check the shocks out, and maybe rebuild the brembos, but otherwise it's soo addictive to ride. Just so effortless.

    Everything else is fine, it runs well, suspension is firm, but liveable, and overall I really really enjoy riding it. I kinda make excuses to take it out and go for a ride.

    It really feels like an adventure each time i ride it. Freedom.

    If you think full throttle is nuts as it is, bear in mind that the throttle mapping doesn't actually allow 100% throttle opening, regardless of which mode you're in.

    I may be wrong but my understanding is that you never actually get 100% open at the throttle bodies unless the throttle mapping is retuned.

    I haven't read that, from what I've read its >9500rpm and 4th+ gear can give 100%.
