That’s a short somewhere not a bad earth. Blower motor could be shorted and pulling too much current, or could be anything else.

“Bad Earth” is the generic term for literally any electrical issue, up to and including car being submerged at a boat ramp.

It’s like the Facebook snake identification charts with 42 species of snakes, all called brown snake. Even if frills and legs.

I think bar work will have to wait until I can get a decent roof rack, lift is coming soon, will have to go to King Springs and see what they can do, I was scraping a few times on Moreton so probably 1.5" lift is on the cards but first is some exhaust mods, i want to hear the damn thing

I had a 96 P38 hse. Loved everything about it but never trusted it fully.

The body control modules can be a finicky thing and lock the car down if the moon's in the wrong phase or you haven't emptied kitchen bin and that always worried me when out bush.

The melted relays is and easy fix as I'm sure you know. Personally I'd swap the whole box out with the updated version.

Also make sure it's had the battery positive cable update done as any volt drop to the fuse box doesn't help the issue.

    Means well but is skittled

battery cables would be on the list one day soon, never measured voltage drop

i think i'll just move the blower relays out of the fuse box for now

I struggle to believe this thing gets 12.5l/100km. Thats unheard of economy from the old rover V8s
Were you drafting a truck doing 60kmh or something?

Mine was similar 17.5ish in urban traffic and 12s on the highway.

The extra torque of the 4.6 heaps avoiding having to rev the knackers off it to get to the speed limit

when I drove it from Melb I was sitting at 11.5L on the highway doing 110 on the average, 10.8 in places doing 90km/h! in traffic they do drink but it comes down to how you drive it, if you floor it at every opportunity you will pay for it but I guess the 4.6L is a little better, 380Nm is not too shabby

Is that economy based off the dash readout or figured out at the pump?

Rangie should have slightly better aero than a Deefer though.

My dad is driving our 3.9 Classic around, he is retired so doesnt do many kms. It drinks the petrol around town not helped by the fact that he loves the noise from the twin system. On the highway it's much better as the ZF locks the Converter around 80-90kph.

Yeah for sure. Lighter, better aero, better highway gearing etc. Mines on 33s and has the usual accessories. But rovers arent known for their fuel economy either. Id happily swap to a v8 for the power and noise with closish to that economy!

I have seen 12s out of a 4.0l P38. Not uncommon for light throttle cruise.

    so bought a 4x4

Front and rears went in, goes round roundabouts with vengeance now!

Replaced fuel pump as precaution, over 300.000km in the original and doing a coolant system refresh this weekend as my bet is that most of it is 300.000km old as well.

    I love this fucking thing

    Fraser

Did not get bogged, had a ball and did it in comfort

P38 is a sure thing really, buy for 2k, either it goes for ever or you part it out to other p38 weirdos for 2k easily. Win win.

that would be a moneypit right there, it looks like previous owner just run it into the ground with zero servicing so my guess is this:

    suspension will need fixing
    new alternator
bet it was overheated hence the oil leak, rovers usually leak oil when you overheat them
    cosmetic shit is cheap thou
ABS lights can be an easy fix or nightmare

would not take the chance on that one

    quick update

the fucking thing still rocks! bought a water pump and hose kit to do the cooling before summer as a precaution apart from that it carts shit around like a champion and hasn't left me stranded anywhere
there might be a slight exhaust leak under the rear drivers side muffler, has some black marks around a weld joint not sure if I should worry or not but the idea of a glorious v8 note is doing my head in
