    Luxurious accommodation on Fraser

    Flame on!

Got an in law coming over late Feb / early March and planning a 4 day trip to Fraser. In law doesn't camp so what's the most luxurious resort on Fraser? I've read mixed reviews on Eurong and Kingfisher. We don't really want private accommodation, would prefer somewhere will a decent pool and restaurant.

We will be doing a 'highlights tour' only like Lake Mckenzie, Birrabeen, Eli Creek, Maheno, then just chilling by the resort pool.

I'll prob take my oldest for a camp one night too.

We're going without the in law later in the year for a week or two so I'll do more then.

Kingfisher is probably your best bet.
I usually stay at Eurong (as I prefer to be on the Eastern side of the Island)
Whilst Eurong has had $millions thrown at it over the last 10 years, I still think it still has a fair way to go to rival Kingfisher for luxury.

That said - Eurong is certainly no shit hole nowadays either...

i stay here whenever I go, im there this weekend.

    https://www.fraserislandbeachhouses.com.au/

i get the ocean view places.

Its on the east coast so you don't have to spend an hour at the start and end of everyday crossing the island to get to kingfister.

You gotta bring all your own food but they have ovens and hot showers, pool, bbq ... all shit you want.

You can fit 3 couples in one house.

Its pretty awesome to spend a full day out doing stuff then come home and have a good shower and a roast dinner. Clean the sand out of your vagina have a good night sleep in a real bed and get ready for the next day.

How's Kingfisher for bugs? Eurong too I guess.

Fondles: Fraser was my suggestion so I can't complain. Separate rooms is a good thing too.

Checking it out now. Looks good. I would prefer east coast, just wasn't sold on Eurong.

We stayed in a self-contained villa at Kingfisher a couple of years ago.
I was impressed with the one we stayed in - much better than I was expecting.

Pretty good privacy, plenty of space and short walk to restaurant/pool/etc.

Just booked here for the 2nd week in Feb as this deal seemed pretty good in specials on the website.

7 night escape - November 2018 and February 2019 from $1000(2 Bedroom Poolside or Garden Spa)

Any recommendations for nice accommodation nearby but on the mainland for on the way there or back.

My plan is Wollongong to Coff's first day then Coffs to somewhere nearby on mainland 2nd day then over on the barge day 3...

Open to suggestions. Also is it just a matter of looking at the barge time table and rocking up?

One option is Noosa / Noosaville. Can then go Noosa northshore to rainbow beach then onto Fraser via Inskip.

Noosa is a good option if the tides work for the beach run up to Rainbow. Sometimes needs to be dead low to get past the rocks near Rainbow. The Lagoon is sometimes impassable as well. Freshwater track is the bypass, but it adds about 45min I guess. That beach run from Noosa needs another permit as well.

Staying at Rainbow Beach is another option. It's about 7.5hrs on the highway from Coffs, but you're only 15min from the Inskip barge. With such a short trip to Fraser, you probably want to maximise your time on the Island. Barges start from sunrise in summer. If the tide's high there's the Hook Pt bypass rd, then a short beach run up to Dilli Village and the start of the Southern Lakes drive. Nice drive, normally barely see another car, and goes right past Birrabeen. On low tide, you can obviously go anywhere. It's about 30min from the barge to Eurong on the beach, which is the quickest access to Birrabeen/McKenzie/Kingfisher.

Lake McKenzie is best early morning or late afternoon, when the backpacker busses aren't there. Staying close by at Kingfisher gives you a great chance to beat the busses.
Add Lake Wabby to your list. It's a nice walk from the beach via a bit of bush and a bit of open sandblow, and a unique barrage lake.
Champagne pools are very nice too, but a fair way up the island. Do it if you have time and the tides suit. You want a high tide around midday for that. Low tide for a morning run up the beach, stopping at Eli for a bit, spend a few hours at Champagne pools over the high tide when the waves crash over the rocks into the pools, then back on the afternoon low. Ask the locals if the pools are OK when you get to Kingfisher. If they're really full of sand as happens sometimes, you'll wonder why I recommended them!

Don't stay at the RACV Noosa. It is to far from Hastings Street to be able to walk to the beach.

Try Peppers/Viridian if you want resort style but is still a walk up the small hill. Otherwise anywhere on Hastings street is much better, some are old but you won't need your car for three days. Staying not on the beach side will save cash.

This place is good when our friends stay.

We stay at Ocean Breeze as it is cheap and cheerful.

I've found actually letting your tyres down a good cheap substitute for maxtrax

You don't get street (Beach?) cred from letting your tyres down.

    Here at the moment.
Doesn’t seem to be many people on the island at all.

    Luxurious accommodation on Fraser

Yeah looks like we got off at the right time,
Was pretty sketchy with us leaving on 3/4 high tide and huge swell..
    Had an absolute ball but.
Went through the undercar wash at Rainbow beach twice..
For $30 a go I thought it was worth it..

Give it a good wash underneath and in the engine bay when you get home. Jam the hose in anywhere and everywhere it can go; chassis rails, spare tyre (if fitted underneath), every nook and cranny. Use ramps at one end first then move to the back and repeat.
