    TCR Australia

The series starts next year and had a launch with a few cars at SMP today with some Supercar drivers doing some laps.
I'm really looking forward to this class taking off.

Considering the quality of the race series and cars, I'm very surprised by the lack of media talk from yesterday. There was at least Hyundai, VW, Audi, and Honda current spec cars at the track and nothing mentioned anywhere.

The relevance of these cars is so much greater now than then. I'm sure young guys will jump on this series as opposed to GT3 Challenge or Khumo series. The fact that its a worldwide series is very enticing for someone wanting a touring car career.

    I'm excited for TCR

With the number of Manufacturers building TCR cars, we should get a pretty interesting grid

They have already matched V8SC for Manufacturers - 3

Ah fair enough, Porsche, Audi and VW, Skoda & SEAT all the same shit different badge IMO

But yeah more badge variety than V8SC

Plus they don't make the cars look like something that should be competing in Aussie racing Cars series

Looking forward to it. A few decent names will help draw attention. One wonders how many manufacturers have enquired after Craig Lowndes.

As far as spectators go, I imagine this series would have a lot more appeal to a younger generation brought up on Playstation games full of imports and turbo cars, as opposed to an aging population who remembers "the good old days of Ford vs Holden"

So seeing as i know nothing about the series what events are they being run at? Is it a class at Supercar rounds or a stand alone thing?

Hopefully they have a decent grid by then.

I had a good look the TCR cars at the final race of the Thailand super series at Chang International last month and they are nice bits of kit.

They need more of them on track though as I found them to be a bit boring.

if he gets the drive, good luck to him, i would think barry morcom would want a driver to bring $ to sit in the other car beside his son. that is unless Hyundai is paying for the lot upfront.

this series may be a good stepping stone for a career seeking driver leaving f4 (hence why this years champ jayden was at the launch), the budget jump from f4 to carrera cup, let alone kumho or super 2 is huge.
tcr could open up opportunities OS and help remove the supercar blinkers.

The WTCC looks to be fun with big fields and plenty of willingness to rub panels. Hopefully this is the same.

These are pretty cheap to run, and should make class A production cars redundant. To build a $200K+ production car every year or two, to stay at the front of what is meant to be grass roots motorsport, is absurd. Plus all the R&D on top of that. Now the eligible cars wouldn't look out of place on a GT4 grid.

You can run a TCR car with a crew of 2 or 3. No fancy equipment needed for dry sumps or refuelling, or eleventy Nm rattle guns for centre lock wheels either.

There's a bloke in TCR Europe that runs at the pointy end, doing all the work himself between events, with just his brother and a couple of mates crewing. Tows it behind a Merc Sprinter in an enclosed trailer, too. His greatest expenses are accommodation and travel.

Will be interesting to see what sort of lap times compared to other categories.
