Maybe Renault have a packaging issues

Maybe Mclaren who after years of exploding Hondas and 1 year of average Renaults have taken a very conservative packaging / cooling approach this year

Renault really should have been testing there SPEC C last year

The engine shut down seems way more like a software shutdown than mechanical. Itís almost like someone closed the lid of a laptop and it told some aspect of the car to shutdown.

Same with this safe mode story, itís like the work experience kid was running the software, or their tuner studio licence expired or something.

Canít explain the strategy choice but thatís at least a strategist making a wrong call, unfathomable, but at least a person you can blame.

Maybe the ECU's have a distance limitation due to them basically failing at the same point on the track (rather than at the same time)
Will be interesting to hear Cyril's explanation. No doubt he'll blame someone else other than themselves...

Sucks badly for Charles, he's a fucking good kid isn't he. Wish I was that mature at his age!

Oh yeah the excuse/reason is going to be fantastic

I really hope we see Charles take the WDC before Strappon

The two Renault failures looked different to me, Hulkís popped and debris and smoke blew out the exhaust at full noise at the end of the straight, where Danís just lost all power suddenly at low speed on corner exit.

But how do you have two different modes of failure within seconds of each other? You know statistically even for Renault or Honda at their most explodey the odds of that are huge.

I suppose itís French, so losing at astronomical odds is kind of their thing.

Given the car has 1000000000000000000 parts and software modes, it's not out of the realms of it.

Maybe safe mode is just code for 'not so sure about party mode' so want to wait until we have an expendable engine first

Maybe Dan hit the kill switch by accident

I did wonder if someone hit a kill remotely after thinking it was him that scattered parts.

Dan mentioned in his post race interview (it was right at the end of the coverage) that he believes it was a safety switch that triggered to prevent a failure like Carlos had in Melbourne. So I suspect Renault have added an extra safety circuit on the MGU-K system after Carlos' failure and this circuit has been triggered and just shut the whole show down rather than potentially start a fire again.

Does anyone else think these front wings are more fragile? They seem to snap off pretty easy as opposed to take off endplates like they used to

For sure. By mid-season theyíll either be making tougher wings or we will be seeing a lot more of the Vettel experience where they fatigue fail.

Given how bad the immobiliser was in my brother's Clio, maybe Dan just had to wait 30-60 minutes and try to restart it.

Did you even watch the video of it prior to breaking?

Thing was probably seeing 20g's+ in vibration.

    so close to some points

It's gunna be a tough year to be a Dan fanboi.

It was vibrating fairly violently but there has been a few other wings fail at the attachment point this year instead of just ripping off end plates etc.. Kind of expected more damaged wings this year with them being wider but instead of endplates and winglets the wings are just failing at the attachment point to the nose.

I've watched vettel's spin a bunch of times - it's pretty strange - and he didn't really leave the tires locked for very long.. I was actually wondering if the wing had failed and was less effective - assisting in the spin.

Looked to be a shit load of sand on track. The sand spray off a couple of the cars at the end of the race when they were offline gathering up marbles almost looked like a wet track. So possibly he just gassed it up a bit too much and just not enough grip on that part of the track.

Yep, he already acknowledged that he made a mistake with the spin by gassing it.

I agree. Fairly innocuous spin to cause such damage to the tyre. I realise flat spotting is not difficult to do but we see lots of F1 cars spinning in ever race, many in a bigger way than what Vettel did, and I can't remember any others leading to front wing failure from tyre vibration.
