    "Portable" wideband for a motorbike?

    Gents,

As the proud owner of 3 carbed old motorbikes I was after tips about putting together a wideband setup that I can easily take from one bike to the other for some basic road testing. Not looking to break horsepower records, just keep them running well.

From what I've read they like to be installed in a bung close to the cylinder head to keep them hot, yet I have seen some that just clip to the end of the exhaust pipe. How big a difference in performance is there just jamming it up the exhaust?

    Has anybody here done this?

    Cheers

The main problem I've found with portable widebands is people borrow them and you never see them again.
Imagination is more important than knowledge.

I made one if mine portable. Easy to do.
They always have an inbuilt heater, so they work fine in the tailpipe as long as you use an adaptor that doesn't allow fresh air to contaminate the sample

I did this on my KTM 690 SMC and got bad readings at low RPM from fresh air spoiling from the big single pulses.

I ended up welding a bung in the header and used a NGK Powerdex AFX mounted to the bars with leccy tape, and marked the 0, 25, 50 and 100% throttle positions on my handgrip with red paint.

Strap a GoPro to your chest and hey presto, ghetto datalogging!!
