    QLDers, what is this crap

    Having now settled in Qld I thought it might be time to hit the race track for some club sprints and stuff.

    Seems there is this two-bit mob called R.A.C.E.R.S. that is used by a lot of clubs and has no connection with CAMS or AASA and you can't use those licenses at a RACERS event anyway. Okay, it's only $60 a year for a RACERS "Clubman" license but it is annoying that I can't use my existing, nationally recognised license.

    Read the Supp Regs for some events and I find this shit:
    For owners of vehicles that are registered for road use in the state of Queensland your vehicles will be required to have a Third Party Insurance (CTPI) extension certificate which you obtain from your Third Party Insurer and are required to show at scrutineering.
    WTF!?! Is this really necessary or is it clubs being stupid? I asked around at a recent event where I just went to have a look and no-one knows how this requirement came about or if it is actually needed. Most insurers apparently issue those extension certificates for free on an event-by-event basis but some charge for them. Either way, what a ball-ache if you decide last minute you want to go and do a club track or "driver training" day.

    Are these certificates really needed for events at a racetrack or did someone just decide to do it and now a lot of other clubs just follow?

    It must have been in a fair while, interstate rally events with Qld competitors (and sandgroupers too, iirc) were required to document it back in the early/mid 90s....Cams run competition.

    Had the same thing in Victoria. One event Iím looking at for PI uses the third party to cover indemnity on track. Downside is no lap timing allowed

    RACERS is a Tetly-ism. Just for QR and Lakeside. CAMS and AASA not used at his sprints.

    CTP Extensions are a CAMS thing. It came about being used for sprints/hillclimbs by mistake, or some CAMS official being a bit over-zealous on covering their arses. It's really only supposed to be for rallies where competition cars will be driven on open public roads during the course of the event - ie transport stages of proper rallies or TREs (Touring Road Events).
    They aren't good for anything on race tracks but some QLD CAMS officials got the wrong end of the stick and decided if registered rally cars need them, then all registered cars in any CAMS event in QLD should have them regardless of whether or not public roads are involved. Noosa hillclimb would be the one exception where it would actually be needed as registered cars can return to the pits on an open public road after racing up the hill.

    Thanks guys. The RACERS thing I can deal with as I see it as the similar to AASA.

    The CTP extensions for events on public roads makes perfect sense but seems like complete nonsense at a dedicated racetrack.

    The third party thing is fucking retarded. Used to have to get them for 4wd rock crawling competitions.

    Not a legal type, but ISTR reading a while back that the Qld teaffic laws are peculiar in that they technically apply to all use of a motor vehicle, even if it's not on a publically accessible road - pergaps the requirement for a CTP extension is sonething to do with that? Anyway, it's been a requirement for a number of years and doesn't seem to cause a lot of hassle
