Probably the only woman in the world to ever say no to a Range Rover.

Well a few packages from the UK turned up during the week, so I spent a few hours today on the Freelander.

New side vents in chrome, with clear indicator lenses, a black badge kit for the external oval badges, a black badge for the steering wheel, and some centre caps with black badges.

The Freelander 2 has some odd sized oval badges on the C pillars, which are not used on any other LR model. They are the standard green/gold colours. The Supercharged Range Rover Sport got black badges, and I think they look a lot better, especially on a black vehicle, and i'm not the only one that thinks that way, there was such a demand that a small company in the UK started making these kits to stick over the Freelander 2 badges.

Not as good as the real thing when you get up close, but since there is no other option, this is it.

The Supercharged Range Rover Sport also had the black oval badge on the steering wheel, which you can pick up on ebay cheap enough.

        Before

        After

The vents on the wings quite literally pop in & out, and the side indicators are also a 30 second job to change.

        Before

        After

Wheel centre caps actually turned out to be genuine ones, despite the super low price on ebay. Or...the green ones I took off were copies too? Either way, massive improvement.

You can see where I wiped the wheel before taking the cap off, that's from just one week of commuting, a total of 400kms. I think some low-dust ceramic pads are needed here.

So, nice new wheel caps, but then I saw just how bad the gutter rash was on the wheels....

Really, they need professional refurbishing, but i'm on the lookout for a set of original 20's from a Range Rover Evoque (direct fit) so I just sat there for an hour touching them up with a silver wheel paint kit.

Hell of a lot better than what it was.

So some pics after a wash, it's looking a bit sharper now.

Still waiting on new door handles to arrive from the UK, should be here next week.

It's getting there, but this is the easy stuff, next comes the navigation & bluetooth phone retrofit, just waiting on my wallet to recover from the last couple of weeks efforts...

Nopics Mum has one of these, HSE TDi in ruby red with black/red leather. Quite a nice little bus, a massive step forward from the original wart.
Obviously they haven't improved the plastic trim quality though!

I can vouch for these things, owning a sd4 HSE. Nice wagon indeed. Only issue is that its chewing brake pads due to their weight and smallish brakes, but overall v happy.

Cheers fellas. Yeah it's a good bus, head & shoulders over the 1st gen Freelander.

I think the problem with this particular one is that the previous owner didn't garage it & that killed the unpainted exterior plastics, and the paint to a certain degree. The back end must have been poking out of a carport, hence the plastic plinth over the rear number plate & the d-pillar covers were pretty stuffed. The vents in the wings and the door handles weren't so bad, but still needed attention. The door handles on this one are the 1-piece jobs so you can't just change the "skin", I've got some covers coming which go over the whole handle, if they're shit then i'll have to look at completely new handles. The tailgate had crows feet all the way through the colour under the clearcoat, which again posts to no garage...

I've had a quick look into the brakes cause I also feel they are a little inadequate...
From what i've read online, the 3.2L has bigger front discs than the 2.2L, but the rears are the same.
I'm in the middle of downloading the latest Microcat parts catalogue to check the exact details.

R1 Concepts in the US does discs for the 3.2L LR2, but i haven't seen anyone do an upgrade to bigger discs or calipers.
Since the bolt patter is same as the late model Jags, and the Focus/Mondeo, I wonder if a Focus ST or RS brake kit could be adapted.
The 2.5L Focus ST brakes were a direct bolt-on to the Jag X-Type, so fingers crossed...

I have a full dealer-level diagnostic system for Jags & late model Land Rovers, it's called SDD, which is the successor to IDS.

So I hooked up the SDD yesterday to have a bit of a poke around, mainly to see what "dealer options" there were to play with.

I really wanted to turn off the warning beeps if you start the car with the drivers door open, or open the drivers door before removing the key.

I found the vehicle configuration where you can change all this sort of stuff, but sadly no option to turn off the chimes. Actually there's not many options in there at all, you can select if the mirrors dip in reverse, select the drive-away locking, and select daytime running lights, and that's it...

                  A bit disappointed....

There isn't even an option to turn off the beltminder, although I did find out how to do it without the SDD.

                  1) Insert the key fob
                  2) Press and HOLD the start button without your foot on the clutch (manual) or brake (auto) for about 2-3 seconds
                  3) Insert and remove the seat belt 9 times - a chime will sound on the 9th attempt
                  4) Seat belt warning is disabled

Still can't shut up the key-in/door-open chimes though...

I hate cars that beep incessantly...

100 pounds is pretty good. For reference its $320ish for a current model captiva blind

I can believe it that everyone wants to turn it off, it's so annoying!
What surprises me is the lack of "dealer options" in the SDD, with the Jag there's dozens of different settings you can play with, the LR is pretty basic...

You mentioned that, do you guys do Jaguar as well?

Currently 18's, with a brand new set of Kuhmo somethingorothers that have done 1000 k's or so...it's bittersweet, i'm glad it's got new rubber, but if it didn't that would be a good excuse to get the Evoque 20's that i'm lusting after...

Want a set of Style 6 in Sparkle Silver, prefer 5x to include the spare as well.

There's a mob in Sydney offering a new set of 4x replicas with Atturo tyres for $2K but I can't justify that, especially since I have brand new rubber on the 18's, and I'd prefer an OEM grade of tyre...and it's only 4x, and, and, and....

I asked the local LR dealer if he could hook me up with something, he told me to go to Tempe Tyres!

lol nah we do vag, lr and suzuki. sadly no jaaaag.

sdd is very limited even in dealer. there isnt much that you can do. suprisingly the bmw era stuff has more choices.

reason i asked about the rims, is that they look small.
