Over the weekend I spent some time sorting the planned turbo and exhaust manifold setup.

The old school j-pipe needed a few specific things to make it work.

    - a 280zx L28e exhaust manifold
    - a T04 flanged turbo
    - a 4 bolt external wastegate.

I managed to track down a exh manifold from a Datto guy in the middle of nowhere. 280zx era with the EGR already plugged up. Win.

I bought a Taiwanese brand ‘Mamba’ turbo flange adapter to fit my $175 China 3076 journal bearing turbo.

and finally the 4 bolt external gate arrived from the USA.

all the mating surfaces have been filed flat smooth.

next I’m sorting the intake manifold and wiring
    the efi.

Big dumb wheels have been purchased.

The car currently has 31x10.5r15 installed.

I wanted bigger tyres for some mild off-road adventures.

I’ve got a full set of basically brand new 33x12.5r15 tyres and some 15x8 -22 Sunraysia wheels.

I did a quick test for this morning, trying to simulate the lift it’s going to get.

the plan is to paint the wheels white.

So the plan all along has been to install EFI and turbo this car.

My plan for doing this is to keep it cheap and cheerful.

So I've bought a collection of bits and pieces to click together a turbo kit for the old bus.

As some of you might know, I make a Datsun L-series crank angle sensor to suit the Patrol's L28 engine. The sensor is a 24-1 wheel with a Nippon-Denso style reluctor. So I'm naturally going to use one of these.

I also make a coil bracket to allow GM LS coils to attached to the side of the L-series valve cover. Neat solution that uses oem LS leads.

    Intake manifold ?

Nissan produced fuel injected L28 in the 280zx chassis cars. T I found a L28e efi intake on Gumtree interstate and swooped on it. They are getting a little rare.

My plan is to adapt a Holden Vectra 60mm throttle body. Its like a baby AU falcon throttle body with a 2 wire idle built in. Ideal for what I'm doing here.

Injectors and fuel rail look to be sorted, Im grabbing a set of 7mgte 11mm injectors off a datto guy and I have a aftermarket fuel rail already.

    Exhaust side?

I found a fellow datsun guy with an old cast iron Datsun turbo J-pipe. This pipe attaches to the OEM n/a exhaust manifold. There are OEM L28 turbo manifolds but they are rare and expensive.

The J pipe is a t04 flange so I needed to buy an adapter to convert to T3 to suit the turbo I wanted to use. Mamba sorted that.

Ive ordered a china 4 bolt wastegate that is currently enroute from the USA.

The turbo is a MaxSpeedingRods '3076' journal bearing turbo. A few people suggested they were good for the price. $176 delivered. If I'm feeling rich later, I'll throw a $1000 china ball bearing at it.

And this is all that junk assembled on the bench. I am figuring out throttle linkages and a few other details before I go and install.

I had a red one just like this. The SWB and leaf springs get old after a while but the L28 made up for it.
