    100 Series Landcruiser

After my ranger burnt to the ground last year I decided to get the landcruiser I always wanted. Enter this 105 series for 8k.

Got it just before covid so no tax, it was a bit banged up, had more rust than I wanted and realised the day after I got it that it had big end rattle. Still, loved the shit out of it for about 3 months when it went swimming on Moreton Island.

Insurance surprised me again, $11.5k payout! Unfortunately covid was in full swing by now and cruiser prices had boomed. A 6cyl petrol had gone from 8k to 15k and I had a hard time dealing with that. I found a nice 100 series v8 petty for 21 and banged him down to 17.5. Had 120k less than the old one (230k) and the 5spd box, updated interior and a very healthy pokey v8.

Absolutely love this beast. Best 4wd I've owned/driven and I've had several. Been dailying it while my wrx is off the road and I will miss it to some degree when it is relegated to camping duty.

Was very stock when I got it. Had some remnants of some 12v fuckery still live in a few places. Got to work tearing all of that out and reinstalling all the fruit I pulled off the 105 before it went to the assessors.

First up the rear shelf and rear aux battery needed to go in. I've had this thing in 5 4wd's now, it is a beast. Kids love it, the analog dials blow their mind and they think I'm a mad scientist. Got ammeter, voltmeter, 130ah agm, 40l water tank and the distribution board with 3 cig sockets, 2 usbs and a couple of Anderson's on 1m cables for solar hookup.

Once that was in moved onto the electrics. The first cruiser was a bit of a test out in the end. Learned a few things that I did differently and didn't break any of the interior panels since I now knew how to remove them!

2 worklights on the back tailgate that shoot out the back or straight down. Draw 1.8amps, planned on wiring seperately but got lazy. Wish I did, they're bright!

Old one had carpet in all of the consoles. New one didn't, couldn't get over how much everything rattled so fixed that.

Ripped my old headunit out of the old one, needed a fancy wing kit to fit the updated dash but it all fit up very nicely. Much better speakers than the old girl too.

Old one had the factory side steps, new one didn't. Got a set for $120 brand new with factory fitting kit. Win!

Pulled the roof basket off the old one, always wanted to lower it for more clearance so chopped all the legs down about 50mm and whacked it on. These things rust badly around the windscreen and in those channels so ripped off the covers and left them off.

Refitted the cheap led spotlights bcf. They're bright as fuck, for the money I rate em.

Old one came with dual battery but engine layout of the v8 meant starting over. Still had my battery's from the old girl and my redarc solenoid so in they went. 100ah fullriver, the little brother of the 130ah in the back. Had to use a redarc trey which involves relocating the power steering reservoir. Made for a very neat install.

If you want to disable the second tail gate light where you didn't wire it separately, why not just put an inline switch near it?

That's cheap, guessing 20+ for one now. These or the last 4.2D patrols always appealed to me, seems most of the patrols went to meth heads though.

The trim on the legs of the roof rack did wonders! Nice looking rig. Would be a comfy tourer

Cheers mate, yeah made it alot more practical, it'll fit under 2.1m bars now.

It's amazing how roomy they are. Spent most of my life in a hilux, went to a ranger which was definitely more spacious interior but the cruiser is next level. It's great how many cruiser specific mods/accessories are available off the shelf. Got lots of plans for mine.

Id like to get one of the bushwakka 270deg awnings, rear tailgate storage/table and an Emu wing for the back window in the not to distant future. Gonna install a 12v TV on a fold out mount.

Got busy with the 12v wiring. First cruiser gave me some ideas for improvement, for one using a 12slot fuseblock over a 6 as they fill up fast! Click image for larger version

Love all the factory style switches available. Put in 2 led strips in the front seat for decent lighting, dual battery link and spotlight switch.

Found a nice high amp twin usb slot to match the dual voltmeter. Very handy. Also fitted the remote face UHF, now into its 5th vehicle. Grabbed a kings obd thing too, it's got some handy info to display and code reading ability.
