My Spanish inquisition. Gas Gas 300 6 days.

So I picked up the new bike today raced home unloaded it and got out for a quick spin before the wife and little bloke got home.

I'll leave my first impressions here but I'll plan to get out on the weekend for a couple of hours to get a little more used to the bike before I head down to the Gunning to a mates farm for his birthday weekend of races and drinking.

Power. Best is described as disgruntled Russian bride. On the normal 300 they give you a duel map switch with a rain or dry setting. With the 6 day bike they just give you the fucken power setting and trust you know how not to be a dumb cunt. While I am a dumb cunt I do have good throttle control. My last 2 banger was a then almost new Husky 360. It was not a slow bike but the power of this thing feels a lot more explosive. Next to my old 07 WR450 it's night and day. It feels just as strong but much much quicker to make power. It will be interesting to see how I feel about it in a couple of months time. Clearly it sounds fucking 2 stroke awesome!

Stopping. The first time I jumped on the front brakes I actually said "fuck me" in my head lol.

Turning. Feels very sharp but I really enough time on the bike today to get a solid feel for it. The thing weighs fuck all so I expect it to be very good on single track.

    So hot, great purchase.

    How many km's/hr's on it?

Top end on the kitchen bench.... ahh memories of the old days, rebuild the KX100 before mum got home, then break it in with some practice launches on the nature strip

Im also a dumb cunt and every time I step back on a decent 2 banger after riding a 4 stroke the first corner I almost throw it away due to me forgetting about the non existent engine braking.

It is a good feeling when it all happens in 2nd & 3rd gear :D
      RB26......................Again

not much better than some 3rd gear sandy/loamy single on a smoker, braaaaaping between bends.

It has 156 hours on it. Top end has been done but was within spec. The bloke who owned it was super OCD. like comb the lawn so all the grass is pointing the same way OCD. He had the verniers out to show me the piston lol. The box of factory ISDE parts came with them all wrapped in glad-wrap He only sold it to make sure he could pay for the new KTM450 6 day bike he picked up today.
I laughed a bit when I picked the bike up and noticed the front tyre was almost new and the rear tyre is 80% fucked. Now I know why. One of the guys I ride with has one of the very last rego'ed CR500's so I'm keen to see what he thinks.

My gut feeling is it needs a Rekluse clutch and and handbrake for the rear. I'm used to having a handbrake from the stuntbikes and could see how it would really work on a 2 banger.

I think most people are still gun shy from the likes of VOR and importer stability.

Got out for a couple of hours on the weekend. Little wet but still heaps of fun. As it hapens the bike has got the duel engine mapping switch the PO had tucked it up and out of the way near the left radiator shroud.
The power is a little smoother on the wet setting and there is a noticeable change to how hard the bike pulls in the mid and top end next to the dry setting. I found it good for getting up steep rutted out snotty hills and stuff where you wanted more progressive power rather than the all out give me everything all at once power.

My only grip is the very stiff twin wall bars. While they might be nearly indestructible they have a shit load of high frequency vibrations coming though them. I've broken a number of fingers over the years at Krav and other stupid stuff and the vibrations really started to hurt them. The pain was such that I called it a day after 2.5 hours and rode home.
I read one review where they removed the cross brace to see it it helped but he still found them really stiff.

Got out to a mates farm last weekend. He has a 1.2k MX track,800 mtr flat track and a heap of single track though a pine forest. I spent most of the weekend thrashing it though the forest and had a ball. My only gripe was on the flat track and the really tight single track the front end was really nervous and felt like it wanted to push. Not very confidence inspiring. I've made some adjustments today and plan to go out for a couple of hours to see if its any better.
I also got a chance to ride a couple of other bikes. 2012 CR450F,2011 KTM 530,2013 KTM 300EXC. The CRF was stupid easy to ride fast on the MX track and easy on the arms on the single track. It also felt really safe to push hard on the flat track with no hint of understeer. The 530 heaps of fun everywhere and I'll have a long think about one as my next bike. The 300EXC was more or less the same as my G.G300 power wise and felt good in most things I did.
Interestingly we spent an hour or so drag racing with a little comp then grudge racing. I had 11ty runs with the 300EXC and it was always neck and neck with less than a meter between us on every run. Heap of fun.
I only got two photos from the whole weekend but they do sum it up well.
                        Bright and early Saturday morning..

Saturday afternoon clay shooting. We got all double tap in that shit with the rules being you had to shoot the clay twice if there was more than 1/2 left in the air. Much ammo and lol's had.

I can't tell from the photos but if you got the 45mm marzocchi shivers they are fucking terrible forks. I had mine on my gas gas (4 stroke) worked over by a suspension tuner and they are still junk. I've had sore knees from stomping my foot on the ground to save the front end when it steps out. It seems to work ok as a tard, at least it hasn't tried to kill me yet. If I start dirt riding again i'll buy a bike with suspension that works.

I pulled the forks up 8mm and set everything in the middle. They now feel heaps better. My 2 hour ride yesterday afternoon turned into a 6 hour ride looking for a bloke lost in the bush by the time I got home it was 9P.M and I was fucked but my arms didn't feel like I had just done 500,000 push ups.

I get the feeling the P.O had been fucking around with them and turned them to shit. The rebound was set at 5 clicks off max FFS.
