Fkn LOL ^ That will always make you popular (yeh I've done it once too not paying attention).

As far as I know (QLD anyway) bikes have never been able to use "bus" lanes but the only ones we have here are complete separate roads for buses anyway (would be fucking sweet if we could....a whole road you only have to share with the odd bus! Wicked!) It's always been grey on filtering vs splitting as even if you think you're doing everything you should in terms of filtering the right way there is so many options available to Police they can generally find something to charge you with if they feel like it and they range anywhere from 0 points and $144 to 3 points and $300+.

NSW GovCo really starting to make some good decisions lately.

Hoping to live there in 3-4 years time, so keep up the good work NSW

Bus and transit lanes are fine. Bus only is not (usually only at traffic lights where bus has traffic light priority.)

ACT you still use those lanes, but when the B light goes on you take off.

I'm all for it, even in slow-moving traffic, as long as the traffic speed AND the speed differential isn't too great. Wanker = 70km/h through 60km/h traffic, or 40km/h through stationary cars.

Up here you can use transit lanes (T2/T3) but not bus-only lanes.

I realised a while back how much I've slowed down when "filtering" compared to how I used to ride. When I had the souped up scooter I'd lane split at 60 through traffic no dramas (sorry Shifty) these days I'd be lucky to crack 30kmh if that and probably only if traffic was moving a bit, no way I'd go faster through stopped traffic unless there was a gaping hole and clear road ahead.

Cars staggered ahead in zig zag chicane formation is a different story!

So if a tattooed bloke on a Harley rides between 2 cars, is he filteering or running from the cops?

I find it interesting, and sensible, that L and P plate riders are prohibited from filtering.

I've read this as filtering is permitted in stationary traffic. Not up to 30km/h. I interpeted this as the speed limit when filtering is 30km/h and you may only filter when traffic is stationary. Did everyone else get that or was it just me ?

                    Filtering in NSW legalised

Exactly. The rule as I read it is that you can filter at a speed up to 30kmh. Plenty fast in stationery traffic.

What I'd like to see is what they'll do about what happens when we do get to the front of the queue. Are we allowed to cross into the pedestrian crossing section of the traffic lights?

The law says you have to stop behind the stop line still. Really there is much less chance you'll get a ticket filtering under this new law but you can still get pinged on some stuff. Sucks as just about every second car you see at lights is over the line or 5 mtrs away from it as they suck at judging distance and you never see them get a ticket.

I used to split fucking fast and never had an issue through Sydney peak hour traffic (Broadway to Epping in 18 minutes every day).

Then I had an epiphany and lost my confidence and slowed down. The next week I got squeezed into the gutter twice and then I stopped riding.

Or they start painting boxed area at the front for 2 wheelers like they do in Taiwan. Would no doubt be a massive dose of driver anxiety when they see that. But I'm sure encroaching on pedestrian part of the lights won't make "Harold Scruby is a cunt" fax machine start warming up again.

There was talk of letting bikes use the cycle boxes at the front of lights at one stage but of course all the cyclists had a big cry about it (not that I've ever seen a cyclist use them and they are only in a few places.)

For those not on netrider or any other bike forum, the RMS has put out the rules of filtering
