      Nothing much, I tried to change the spark plugs but none of my spark plug tools fit haha, seems as though the spark plug is 18mm. Got a couple of things on at the moment like tearing a Prado apart. Once I get that done I'll move onto the 748 and rgv, nothing of your craziness though.


        Waiting on some parts so I thought I would make a start on some body prep stuff.
        A quick look at the front guard and it doesn't look carbon.

        But after closer inspection it looks like a fibreglass/carbon piece.

          Oooh, pretty pretty carbon....

          Will it be repainted or left raw???


            Will clear coat when I do the other panels.


              Does all 748s have carbon bits from fact ory


                My understanding is only the fruity versions got carbon as in sp, sps, R and corsa. Mine has some because no doubt it has been sent down the road at some stage.


                  Must be R, I'm pretty sure mines factory fairings but they aren't carbon. Not really sure how to tell apart from sanding the paint down.


                    Underneath is a good giveaway. The cheap carbon ones are fibreglass or Kevlar reinforced. OEM are ABS plastic.


                      It was evident the charging system was not working when I got the bike as it would struggle to start and a voltage check when I did get it running was around 12v regardless of rpm.
                      Starting at the front I disconnected the stator from the regulator rectifier and the plug had been cooked at some stage.                       Cut them off and did a shonky temporary connection but it wasn't the culprit.
                      Disconnected again and tested running ac voltage from stator. 22 Vac idle and 65 Vac at 5k rpm. That seems ok to me so next was testing the diodes in the reg/rec and sure enough one was crook.
                      Did a bit of research and seems a MOSFET type reg/rec is a reliable upgrade.
                      SCR (original) and MOSFET are both shunt type regulators, however the switching of power to the battery when charging is required and to ground when charge voltage is reached is faster and uses less current. This results in more stable voltage and less heat generated by less switching current.
                      The standard wiring uses two small guage cables tee'd into the positive and negative main wires as shown.

                      The kit I got with the reg/ rec came with large guage cables and suggested terminating straight to the battery. Sounds like a good idea.

                        Samco coolant hoses arrived. I used these on the RGV and they were perfect, and as the original hoses looked a little sad I thought I would go with them again.

                          Also started diving into the brakes, they felt ok but $50 for a seal kit seemed like a good idea. Also a good chance to clean them as a prior moron had obviously painted the wheels without taking them off the bike. Needless to say calipers, forks, disc carriers had paint all over them.

                            For ease of maintenance, potential fault finding and replacement cost I thought I would relocate it outside. So a commodore filter and submersible fuel line was purchased.
                            I also made a bracket which seems to be a thing at the moment.
