Hmm, you might be right. The cage builder doesn't seem fazed so I guess we'll have to cross the bridge soon enough. Talking to them in advance can't hurt though
Looks like the Saintz bar is only required at National level though. Unless I'm going up against Sports Sedans!!

They would then allow you to finish & logbook the car during 2012.

It may well be worth talking to them about the exemption though and saying you weren't aware of the new regs, and you're car isn't finished etc...

I took the other option and had my cage built to comply with the 2012 regs so I didn' need to worry- but my cage was built after the 2012 regs came out, so I could do that- others couldn't!
Doubt they would allow that & set a precedent for everyone esle that missed the boat... a couple of blokes in SA tried that in January & got knocked back.

CAMS really is the confederation against motorsport isn't it.... they failed to publise the avail of the option widely to members with enough time to do anything about it- this is a case in point. Not that I needed it, but I know several people who only found out it was an option by dumb luck, and thats how I found out it existed. Had I needed to do it- I wouldn't have had time to do anything cos i was on holidays and had no internet, no printer, no nothing..

There is no addtional risk in letting a few cages through given you can still run something at national level with 6 point bolt in alloy cage if it was logbooked pre 2000...

        bring on AASA everything...

Just looking at a lot of pics of cars with cages, shows a large majority with the lateral bar underneath the steering column. Many don't have space to put it above. That's been a rule since sometime 2008 yet many cars have been passed with the 'knee bar' below the column since then.

So got the dash back from being re-covered in Black Suede even with some stitching around the old gauge panel. Schweet!
New gearstick complete with Hot Rod 8-Ball. Had to laugh. Funny thing is, it's really comfortable. Plus mounted Ethanol sensor too.
So basically everything is ready for final fitting of the ECU with start map. Seal the car up re rain and put it on a truck to the dyno next week some time. Getting a bit toey might I say!!

Agree 100%! Every year it gets harder and more expensive to build a new car.

But I'm a bit confused....AASA has no technical regs at all? They leave it up to the event organisers e.g. iRace/Targa Tasmania? And getting a AASA vehicle passbook involves filling out a form with your car's details on it?

It would make sense if AASA had a functional equivalent of CAMS' General Requirements for Cars and Drivers, with common sense requirements appropriate to amateur level motorsport? That would make it easier for event organisers and competitors who may want to participate in more than one event/series.

Maybe we should start a CAMS vs AASA thread in the motorsport section, not for a whinge/bitch fight but to discuss the diferences which people may not be aware of?

They had to fab up a way to work the accelerator cable. Not sure why, but doesn't look like Tilton makes up something like this...so everyone who uses this pedal setup has to make up this part? Weird.

Also better pic of the dash. Saw it today. Looks good. Will shorten the gearshifter a bit too.

As for the gauge panel, is there somewhere that makes up something that looks a bit better than a dymo label?
                  This looked interesting.

Engraved aluminium plate & extra small rivets...from a jeweller or Mr Minit.
Fill the engraved letters with red paint & sand off excess.

Sounds like a pretty decent option. Thanks for that idea.

Faark- get a proper cable made.

                        Cheap insurance.

It should have a proper clevis fitting on both ends and be a push - pull cable.

After such a quality build I can't believe you would put up a pic like that. Come on mate!
I know you want it done pronto but just take an extra week and sort it properly.
I still run my standard chopped pedal and the tilton acce pedal has a rod end linkage that actuates it. Make sense? Is that a possibility?
Tilton also sells the adaptor that you fit to our pedal assembly so you can run a cable. It is adjustable for motion ratio also. Costs four hundred odd bux tho

Alright already guys...I'll investigate. I'm not sure exactly why we didn't use the part from Tilton but there was a reason. I have a feeling it was to do with the angle of where the cable needed to go. From what I can see of the Tilton Option it doesn't move in the same direction. Remember, I'm not the builder here so I'm not 100% all over the technicalities.
As for the cable, not sure if this is the finished product. Shall report back. $400 didn't used to matter...it's starting to matter.

At least use a proper cable quadrant!
"Where can we get hold of a Vincent Black Shadow?" "Whats that?" "A fantastic bike," I said. "The new model is something like two thousand cubic inches, developing two hundred brake-horsepower at four thousand revolutions per minute on a magnesium frame with two styrofoam seats and a total curb weight of exactly two hundred pounds."
