Dougmo, Seems a common story. You want to go faster, you end up spending no time in the seat, and spending too much upgrading/fixing the car.
At the end of the day, we do it for fun. If it's just you spending money, it's no fun. Driving to the track, compete and drive it home is the simple and fun way to do it. I use a trailer now... Just in case.
Nice work on continuing with this car, and getting some enviable lap times. You should be getting noticed enough to attract sponsors?NA8B 89KW- P.I. 1:50.1, WNTN1:38.0, SDWN 1:27.6, WKFLD 1:10.4

SOOOoooo know how you feel George. It's only the 'Questiness' that keeps driving me forwards. It has it's own momentum and I am merely a passenger. Should have a palpable effect on the back end of my life to look forward to though, lol.Originally posted by dougmo View Poststick with it mate, you are doing a great job.
keep your eye on the prize
My car broke me mentally and financially lol, so ill go back to having fun in a shit box s13 for a while so I can enjoy driving again.
This place is too small for any real sponsorship. The best I could hope for is some cheap or possibly free consumables (which while appreciated, isn't going to touch the sides). If anyone did offer a sizeable chunk 'o cash (say $20k) they would expect blood and want you to turn up at some tyre shop once a month or something like that. Again, not looking any gift horses in the mouth but even $20k is chump change unfortunately. As much as I'd love an extra $20k in the bank at the moment as I'm virtually going through ashtrays looking for small change, I'm sure I couldn't put that extra expectation on Paul to cart the car around on his trailer for such occasions.Originally posted by lightyear View PostDougmo, Seems a common story. Yes, Mick, I do miss driving. But in a weird and somewhat disturbing manner, I feel like I'm getting older and disconnected from driving such a high performance car sufficiently well. Every time I do get in there I don't drive it flat out because I'm fearful of bending it which would snap my WTAC campaign in half. The cash just keeps burning up throughout the years as you well know but would be shocked at how much I've stupidly sunk into this car. My objective, while crossing every limb in my body, is to get another motor in this car that is God hopefully reliable enough to let us achieve potential at WTAC '15 and then if we can pull something off there, I can pull a cover over the car and exhale for a while. We had a 1.29 possible in last year's car and think that would still be competitive in this year's Open class despite some other teams spending a ton more $ in parts and testing this year. From what I hear the times may not tumble as much as expected in Open class this year. Time will tell....sorry, couldn't help myself!Originally posted by Sonicevo View PostYep modifying cars sure is a slippery slope and you've traveled well down it Pat. Kudos for keeping at it, i'd have given up long ago (or my missus would have forced me to lol).
Don't you miss driving?

^ I hear you mate. I keep finding myself looking at $70k GT4 Corvette's and Ginettas et al and then ask myself could i cope with destroying it. So then i find myself going and looking at Pulsars and bone stock Evo 9s lol. There is no point having a racecar that you're too scared to go 9-10 tenths in, in my opinion.
I also understand how it can snowball and it's easy to get caught up throwing good money after bad. You're obviously getting some satisfaction out of the project but remember there is more to life than the TA arms race.
Good luck at WTAC this year, i will come and say hi as usual

My plans with my WTAC car is to finish it, drive it a bit to sort it, then modify it to fit a set of race rules. Then go door to door racing.
WTAC is too expensive for me now.
You saying $20k would go nowhere. My car needs about $5,000 to get it on the track. And if I want to go real fast, I need to spend up on a box, then up the power. But that's about $10k. So $20k for me would go a long way. I hate to think what you have spent. I think mine owes me about $20-$25k inc everything.
But at the moment, it's just a $20,000 shelf.NA8B 89KW- P.I. 1:50.1, WNTN1:38.0, SDWN 1:27.6, WKFLD 1:10.4

Don't mean to sound uppity by saying $20k isn't a lot. Of course it is, but yeah, I've dumped a lot more than that into this thing. Remember I'm a tool who doesn't work on the car. I pay someone else to do it and there is sweet f.a. to pull off the shelf for these cars. Poor choice of platform to start with even though it's nice not to be just another 'Brand X'. So a high percentage on this car is custom made. S'pose Mick Sigsworth could say the same on his bog stock Evo too, lol. Have to assume he might be beating me in the spendy stakes but probably not as much as the cars would suggest. Then again, since 2006 on my previous / 1st 944t I have had 7 motors in the two cars. Some were a lot more modded than the others but it's been very draining all the same. The next big step would be a sequential box but that's a $50k project +/-. If a sponsor wanted to fit one of them up I'd listen!
