The bluebird build ... the past 3 years


We were sitting around at lakeside just before it closed down after thrashing my tt soarer around for the day and a few mates pissed emself laughing when i said i wanted to build a Bluebird track car

Well my first step was to find a bluebird that someone had spent a fortune on which would give me a good base

I purchases a s1 Bluey trx with a fj20 fitted .... fitted is a loose explanation as as soon as i got it i realized it wasn't engineered but butchered

Well wasnt long befor it all started
the motor was pulled and refitted , the suspension was all weleded as it was ripped out


off with thte guards and get rid of the rust














and time for undercoat

then i modded a vl commodore rear wing


and off ot lakeside

The front where i lost the wheel looked pretty ordinary and i am in for leyburn sprints so i thought i woudl give the grafton hill climb a miss and spend the tiem workign on the car

as u can see the damage looked pretty ordinary











couple hours it will be all good

Well the cage is in and almost ready for pittsworth sprints

Well the box is out and the clutch was totally stuffed

the reconned box is ready to go in so time for some pink bits :-)




new box will go in tomorrow

At the same time im playing with front end geometry and have new castor rods and longer lower arms


MOD TIME ...
the washers on the stock castor rods are way to small and had almost pulled their way thru the hole so time for some larger concave washers ... where to find some

an old alternator pully splits into 2




Finished product in 5 mins .. good mod !!!

Well its time fro an update.

Noosa hill climb was going great and i was only a second off the lead group when a horrible knock developed and i looked down ... oil pressure was pulseing badly
On pulling the fj down my concerns were confirmed with NO3 big end firmly spin and jammed under the top bearing

We cleaned it up the best we could and the crank looked ok however the rod had marks on it .Due to the next race a week away we cleaned it all up and threw a sewt of bearings at it


This fix lasted 10 laps and she was knokcing her head off again

Well it was time for a rebuild

Well this weekend it finally happened

new motor new tune (241 hp) at the wheels and off to oakey sprints
There was 9 cars in my class and looked like i was along for the ride

2l turbo gemini
turbo escort
240 zx
and a heap more

anyway ,.. the car was on fire and the driver wasnt doing to bad eaither and i won my first sprint trophy ... and i got FIRST :-)

Well some good news and some really bad news

Noosa hill climb was going great and i knocked a further 1.8 seconds off my best time and the extra horsepower was fantastic ,

i came into turn 13 AND it all went pear shaped
the bird is a right off ---- hit the 1.5 ton of concrete at 130+ kph and managed to roll the concrete block over

the firewall has opend up , there is ripples in the roof and a piller has moved back 40 cm

the transmission tunnel has kinks all the way down and the rear drivers side c pillar has pushed out from the diagonal force of the roll cage

so its a new shell time for me , ME im pretty sore and lots of harness burns but i walked away without a scratch .. gotta love roll cages :-)
