What's next?
I need to make a couple of firm decisions.
- Am I definitely going to use the engine and box I already have?
- If so, am I going to convert the engine to EFI?
I probably will use it, I really like the idea of having a Merc parts bin special (plus no cunt wants to buy that shit). So that being the case, i need to finish working out the clutch setup and get a flywheel made. Then i can get the assembly in the car to work out the gearbox crossmember and shifter setup.
If I'm going EFI (which i probably will as well), then I need to start stripping out the old wiring loom from the engine bay.
There is a bloke in Thailand who is making batches of poly suspension bushes for front and rear, so i need to get in on the next group buy for that. ThenI need to buy new steering bits for the front and plus some other bits and pieces for the engine etc.
Then buy the EFI stuff.
Get the brake calipers overhauled.
Buy some tyres. (I sold the KU36's I had because I was worried they'd be fucked by the time I actually got to use them)
Reassemble and get the car back on the ground.
Continue stripping out the interior and fit a new hot rod style heater box. Fit the seats. Give the interior a lick of paint.
Workout how I'm going to fill the sunroof hole and then do that.
Get an exhaust made (maybe with a nice set of headers too?)
Get it tuned.
Getit engineered.
Get it registered.
Drive the fuck out of it and keep fixing all the things I break.
Plus a bunch of things I've probably forgotten or glossed over.

Playing devil's advocate here... would you consider an SR20DET?
The internets tell me this is 1270kg with the 2.6lt six and the auto...

...so fully converted with addition of bigger exhaust, cooler etc it would be about the same weight if not lighter. Which in turn is similar to the weight of a 200SX and will see you with a very spritely car for what is comparitively fuck all.
It will also make it handle quite sharply, gearboxes are $500 each and there are hundreds of them for sale.Originally posted by 350stato100% agree with Shifty

Engine conversion is the easy way out.
Bahaimus know's what these engines are capable of and how reliable they are.... mostly.
I know bang for buck you could probably convert to SR20 and blow 2 up for the same cost that it would be to build 1 merc engine.
End of the day though, the merc engines are different and it's doing something different instead of just taking the easy route.
Boost it Bahaimus!!! If you see on ozbenz the posts by BAD300 about his turbo project, it'll help inspire. You could whack an M103 (i think they are) engine in and just get him to get copies of all his stuff he paid custom $$ for.
Cam.
