    can you get away with not touching gearbox front housing to make it easier to swap gearboxes in future if something goes wrong with your current one?

      looks like needs to swap the modded front housing, adaptor and bellhousing across to the new box.

          I guess if he'd bashed on the output shaft of the gearbox hard enough and long enough he might have to got the necessary corresponding 20mm+ movement in the input shaft that was necessary to properly engage the clutch plates and the spigot bearing

          Shouldn't have had any detrimental affects on the operation of the gearbox

            just machine off the last two cylinders and make it a V10. V10's are awesome.

              so the 'gearbox' essentially needs to be 20mm closer to the block? why not machine down the adapter plate, and the bellhousing surfaces?

                            It's a 175mm input shaft which seems to be VZ onwards.

                            It's been sorted anyway, I just asked the guys on the "Running and driving Toyota V12's with T56's" forum and they told me what part to get from Aldi.
