I just read the bit about him finally getting a powerglide and thought it would have all the good bits. Didn't even read the rest properly. Not that it would have made much difference, my transmission experience has been limited to factory replacements and trying to source one ambos can't blow up!

Yeah - update coming. The things I've been on just aren't the most exciting is all.
Almost finished (only new steering arms to go )wading through the steering conversion to rack and pinion, and waiting on the exhaust manifold still. Until I et that I cant finalise intercooler placement, piping or TB location.
M&W ignition arrived a while ago, and now have found out that Ross to racing harmonic balancer for it which I'll be ordering ASAP.
Another interesting thing is that Cometic have now started selling MLS gasket for it, but I may be going with the HELICOFLEX system from GARLOCK. (see attachment) - hmm Getting 'Database Error' message when trying to attach pdf.
Had a mad month at work as well a knee op last week, but am cracking back into it now.
Pics to come when I find the camera charger!!

(see attachment)Don't worry, thats just the self-preservation instinct, in my experience you can safely ignore it.

I'm having trouble attaching the pdf on the HELICOFLEX orings from Garlock, but in a nutshell, they are the orings that Cometic use in the Phusion gaskets, and are a gas or spring filled industrial metal o-ring.

I might be getting a bit anal about the head sealing, but I'm making sure that absolutely nothing stops me from jamming 40psi into this thing.

Was a single cam vl turbo, 28x11.5 slicks under the rear and went 9.02 at 155 with a bit less boost. Destroyed the bottom end after that. Was maroon VL at heathcoat but a SA car.Originally posted by 2rismo View Postsoft

Hmm.
Just got Garlock quote for Helicoflex o-rings - $197.
.
.
.
Per cylinder.
So, strategy will be, use SCE ICS integral o-ring gasket to begin with - see how it goes. (already have 1 ).
If that ends up struggling, I'll go for a cometic, and then finally Garloc o-rings if required ultimately. At least I've got a good progressive plan to up the ante if required.

Have a gander at this - http://www.titanmotorsports.com/to1fzenpr1hp.html

farkin! hmmm don't they have 2j's out to 3.4L now? so why de-stroke that to 3.5?Originally posted by Supercrown View PostThis is a post i wrote by mistake, which is nice...

I've actually spoken to Ken Duttweiler about this motor, and it came down to better stroke to rod length ratio and better flowing head (when monstrously ported) than a 2J.
Disadvantages were difficulty of getting to seal up properly and the deck is more prone to cracking than a 2J.
It was being revved to 10K...........Adjustable cam gears for 1FZ-FE now ready for sale - 10 degrees advance/10 degrees retard. Suitable for all variants of 1FZ-FE.
