crazy, although I guess those revs and in turn, piston speeds aren't quite as insane when enough stroke has been taken out of it to drop it to 3.5L?Originally posted by Supercrown View PostI've actually spoken to Ken Duttweiler about this motor, and it came down to better stroke to rod length ratio and better flowing head (when monstrously ported) than a 2J.
Disadvantages were difficulty of getting to seal up properly and the deck is more prone to cracking than a 2J.
It was being revved to 10K...........

Exactly.
It was supposedly a fair bit more durable than a 2j at that HP level from the perspective of rod deformation, piston and bore longevity.
When it was all said and done, at that displacement and development level there wasn't too much between the 1FZ and 2JZ, except that the 2J is more compact and considerably lighter.Adjustable cam gears for 1FZ-FE now ready for sale - 10 degrees advance/10 degrees retard. Okay cunts.
Update time.
I've been doing some boring stuff that was also needed.
Here's pics of what may be the first rack and pinion steering conversion on an ms-65 type ever. (other people just get a better car I guess). It's a mazda 323 rack with a mazda 121 rack uni joint and part of a ford meteor steering shaft coupled with a bit of a ford territiory intermediate shaft. The main steering column is the original one, and the crossmember is something Alex and I cobbled together, along with some alloy rack mounts that I drew up and Alex's dad machined up. The rack yanks on HQ holden steering arms which will be mounted on funny shaped 25mm thick brackets I drew up and had cut. The brackets will restore the ackerman angles and ensure the steering arms are horizontal when the car is at ride height. In addition you can see the modified sump which is yet to be finally welded.

Next bit shows the arrangement of the intercooler/fan/radiator. With a bit of planning, we've managed to fit the radiator in front of the support panel which gives enough room a 16 inch thermo and then the water to ar cooler. I can also fit a 10 in thermo on the front of the radiator as well.

Next here's the M&W ballbreaker ignition system, fancy Ross balancer so the stock one doesn't go off like a grenade at 8000 rpm, and the huge mechanical pump EFI fuel press reg.

The rocker cover with a bit machined off the back so I can get it on the head under the firewall recess. (it's yet to be plated up obviously)

And finally the front of the car with the proper series 1 trim.
As it will finally have headlights and indicators again it'll be street driven! (until it gets defected I guess....)

It's actually pretty close Muz - but yes, they are a little bit inside (racks that narrow are practically non-existent). It will give what I was looking for which is some toe in under brakes, but not too much.
Sump will hold approx an extra litre over std when attached and filled on the slight slope in the car - so 7 litres.Adjustable cam gears for 1FZ-FE now ready for sale - 10 degrees advance/10 degrees retard. Suitable for all variants of 1FZ-FE.

Nah - widscreen was new when the car was tech inspected for 10.99-10.00, and the NOS sticker just happens to be where that original crack was covered by stickers to get through Regency Park. (it still has the Transport SA modification plate for an EFI turbo engine on it too.....

ah the pro-drag6 is a 2 unit system, i used the pro-14/r and mercury coils on my last 13b combo, very nice system. I thought about trying to adapt the coils to coil on plug for even more spark energy not sure if they need some resistance across a lead though.
Been waiting for an update on the beast, bet you are glad to have the steering stuff sorted and be back onto the fun stuff.2JZ KE20 Corolla 7.97 @ 178

That's boost control sorted.

As with the 38mm Tial gates I had, the standard of this thing is freaky. The machining and finish is just brilliant.
Once the exhaust manifold arrives the completing engine bay will be like falling off a log! (possibly except when I start trying to shoehorn the 5 inch intercooler piping in there......)
I may have a bit of an involuntary hold up in the project though, as my faithful siamese assistant Maximus just blew a $3500 hole in the budget with a vet bill. (not that I care - he's still with me so it was a dead set bargain!)
Most of the big stuff has been purchased now though.
Here's a condensed list of the bits.
Engine -
Crower Rods
SPS forged pistons
Revolution Camshafts
Custom 2mm o/size valves
PerformanceSprings valve springs
Shimless bucket conversion
Knight Engines race port head
SCE copper head gasket
ARP L19 head studs
ARP2000 main studs (supra head studs actually)
Ross Metal Jacket Balancer
Supercrown racing stud girdle (not sure how good this company is - might be dodgey but)
Adjustable timing chain gear
Fuel system
Enderle 110 mechanical pump
Aeromotive fuel press reg
2x bosch 044 lift pumps
12x 1600 bosch injectors
Induction
PT-101 101mm inducer turbo
Tial 60mm wastegate
Supercrown racing intake manifold (looks a bit sus, but it was cheap)
6boost exhaust manifold
Spearco water-to-air intercooler
5 inch induction piping
ECU/Ign
Autronic SM4 ECU
M&W Pro Drag 6
Transmission
MV Automatics powerglide
At this stage the vets bill has blown the diff upgrade out of the water for now, so it'll be a borgwarner minispool 28 spline for a while - but I'll probably go for some decent 31-35 spline axles.
The diff will be limiting, but so will the 28x9 and 275/60 DR rubber.Adjustable cam gears for 1FZ-FE now ready for sale - 10 degrees advance/10 degrees retard. Suitable for all variants of 1FZ-FE.
