If a 1GZ came up for reasonable money I would be compelled to buy and fit it. I'd like a 1JZ VVt but havn't seen any around.
I've scoured the mooneyes site. My favourite part is the japlish blurb about why old mate stuck a 1JZGE into his MS55. "the 2M was shit in 1968 and now it's old so it's even more shit so I banged a 1JZ in there" /my translation.
Brakes and suspension first. Single cylinder 4 wheel drums ftl. Probably Nissan 4 spots or wilwood dynalites up front and ED falcon brakes at the rear(maybe the whole diff). Got a heap of shed cleaning up to do first.

Steve the Crownman is the expert on these things but IIRC HQ rotors are a straight fit, as are R32 GTSt/ S14 calipers.
Throw in a MS112 disc brake diff and as long as you aren't thrashing it, it'll last without breaking.

Are the 131/133 sumps on old 1JZGE's GT? Or should I get a new one. Part numbers?
Jim, I've looked over the ClassicCrown tech articles about brakes and see there are many options. I am going to see whether I can do an upgrade on the original hubs though. The local engineer is a brake specialist and can mill up brackets for callipers etc so I am going to drop a hub down to him and see whether he can make a bracket off the original drum mounts.
My bro(JZX83) has a MS112 in his paddock, I will harrass him until he gives it to me.

You may be able to use the 112 front disc stubs even. The S14/R32 calipers are a direct fit on the 112 stubs, though you need to be careful which rotor diameter you use.

Yeah, those sumps are fitted to some 1/2JZGEs - I have part numbers at home. Will post them up here if you don't mind me spamming up your thread. You'll need to fashion up a turbo drain back but that's pretty minor. The one issue is the dip stick - it comes out in exactly the wrong spot (right where the engine mount wants to be) so you need to put it somewhere else.
See if you can source some MS65 hubs - handy but not essential. I fitted some 330mm rotors from a Mustang to the back of mine. You should be able to float a good sized disc over the top of the drum hubs. HQ rotors do work but they do need a little bit of machining to make them fit. I should add the AMI disc braked cars have a caliper bracket that mounts to the drum brake backing plate - I have some of those somewhere. If you do go that route, take the whole stub axle down to your engineer with steering arm attached - it has a nasty habit of getting in the way. Anyway, lots of options for the 50 series.
The MS112 diff is supposed to be a direct bolt in but I know some people had issues with the Panhard rod hitting some part of the body - chat to Stitt or Rod.

Part numbers would be great GT. What's the best way to ID the rare sumps on an engine?
What mods are needed to the regualr mid/rear sump to clear?
Is there a PS box that is readily available and easy fit?
I rang my importer about engines and he questioned my manhood for wanting a 1JZ instead of 2JZ. That sealed the deal.

I think you need to drag the 112 out of the paddock because you'll be peeling all sorts of stuff off it. No idea if the PS box from the 112 would fit but it seems likely.

Now, IIRC, 80 and 110 series Crown PS box is good to go but I point you to Rod and Stitt for definate answers. Your brother's MS112 is looking bloody good to seagull bits off.
This is the sump you need. 22cm from back of alloy girdle to back of steel pan, Supra JZA80 one is something like 15 or 16cm. Aristo is clearly front sump.
Bits out of the EPC:
If you want a regular mid rear sump to clear you need to remove a section from the rear of the steel pan to clear the steering drag link. Really cuts into sump volume.

This should be a fantastic project. Love the style of these crowns, theres an absolutely mint one currently for sale down here, dark red interior, dark grey exterior, yakuza style.
I think it needs something with 'torq thrust' style spokes. Maybe something like Showwheels Streeters in 17 or 18", maybe with the spokes painted charcoal.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe, and from this side only! The flight of a half-man, half-bird. Dinosaurs nuzzling their young in pastures where strip-malls should be. Cookies on dowels. All those moments lost in time; gone like eggs off a hooker's stomach. Time to die.

Thanks GT, I will be the local toyota dealers worst nightmare tomorrow.
Floody, feel free to photochop some wheels on it. I have no idea how to restyle the thing. I just want wide wheels, big brakes and decent suspension to go with the engine but have little imagination when it comes to wheels etc.
