New Cruiser Project - 68 Toyota Crown.

Crown has been out of sight/out of mind at the paint shop for a month or so until panel guy rang me yesterday and demanded the engine be refitted so he could continue the reassembly and onto painting. The engine bay and jambs/inner doors/inner bootlid have all been painted.

Trusty tow truck driver bought it over post haste.





Face came down today and leant a hand reassembling parts of the engine bay, making brake pipes, making wastegate outlet pipes and refitting engine and gearbox.



Looks to be pretty straight, panel guy is happy and he is a fussy cunt so should be good.

man the body lines on this are so similar to my 260C it's uncanny. looks like we might have them finished at the same time - I was toying with the idea of sending the datto up your way for a VH45 or 1UZ conversion in the future.......

I have a VK45 for cheap. Clayto is too soft for it.

Paint is fine afaik Muz, no complaints. The paint that's on the engine bay and jambs was applied by the panel beater(not a painter by trade), the outside will be done by the painter where he does contract work.

I took the opportunity to fit nutserts or tap threads into all the holes that previously had screws in them too, much neater. Also rerouted the rear brakeline off the firewall and onto the chassis rail, it was a bit of a mangled eyesore on the firewall.

Al, I like the colour. Is it similar to what was on the cam covers?

Nah, cam covers are the old SV5000 green that my VK was. It's Toyota Liquid Metal from the current camry/aurion. I will get another pair of covers sprayed the same colour as the car.

Solid progress. When you mention panel gaps I shudder at the thought of my own crown, I think someone hung the doors with a crowbar.

A bit better idea of the colour. Looks a little green for some reason, maybe the shitty light on a rainy day.



Rubbed back with 240. One more rub with 400 and it's in the booth(next weekend if weather is good).
