This thing is going to be awesome. I reckon a stock ECU 2JZ with a GT35 @ 17psi with stock injectors should do the trick. 450HP should be enough for a family hack. :D Should get decent economy too with the stock ECU and injectors.
10.83 @ 125
Quickest stock exhaust manifold stud 2JZ in Aus.

This should be a fantastic project. Love the style of these crowns, theres an absolutely mint one currently for sale down here, dark red interior, dark grey exterior, yakuza style.
I think it needs something with 'torq thrust' style spokes. Maybe something like Showwheels Streeters in 17 or 18", maybe with the spokes painted charcoal.
those wheels would be really good, I think the charcoal would go really well with the current paint on the car too.
Got an Aristo half cut instead of the usual engine/box/ecu. Cost the same and I thought the spare bits might come in handy on this one. Might try and use the front brakes too.
Ordered my ~$1000 mid sump last week too.
My bro(JZX83) gipped me on the MS112 I was going to get off him for the brakes and steering box. :knock: Now I am thinking of using an EB or maybe EF(better handbrake) rear end and adapting the Aristo or some Nissan brakes to the front using a bracket coming off the original drum backing plate mounts to mount the calliper. Still want a PS box though(YOU LISTENING BRO!).
I've had the car on the hoist and it all looks very tidy for a 40 year old.
Having problems choosing wheels to use. Currently thinking of territory steelies to keep the old/blingless look.

Obviously a bit late seeing as you've already bought the motor and shit but I reckon an old 'hemi' style toyota v8 would be awesome in something like this. Plenty of poke for cruising, great sound.
You reckon they would still be available? Pretty old engine now.
I weighed up a few options(1UZ, JZ's,LS1) and the 2JZ came up as the best bang for buck and simplest to fit. The chassis shape is the front of these things makes it quite difficult.(hence having to buy a $1000 sump to fit the easiest engine). Should go OK with a 2J anyway

Still, a JZ 'should' do the job
They look way cool but they just don't cut it - not that much more powerful than the 2M that's in there (IIRC 160-170 hp). You occasionally still see the odd 5VE around but always with a cut loom and no ECU. I suppose you could be lucky and get one out of 1990s VG40 Century.
Stick with the 2JZ - it'll probably be up to the task.:rotflol:

Got JZS147 half cut last week and pulled it to bits yesterday. Look all good for 115k km. Got it all stripped down to the long motor so I can change the sump, strip out the engine harness of unnecessary wiring and toss the ghey twin turbos in the bin.
Empty halfcut waiting for unceremonious dumping.
2JZ eager to overpower feeble old Crown.
First time the shed has been used in 8 months. I dirtied it up good. :D
