Hmmm what are they? They sorta have a bit of the minilite/watanabe look about them, definitely prefer the watanabes and the last one over the BBS. But then I have never really got the BBS shape for some reason.

Traditional style wheels tend to work better on these than racey Japanese wheels.

I gotta agree... you definitely can't go past a set of Watanabe's (or Performance Challengers with Charcoal centres) but I must admit the Cragars and Halibrand-style rims above suit those rigs to a tee.1971 Mazda 1300 Estate Deluxe 1500cc Twin SU - 1979 Mazda RX7 12APP - 1994 Mazda Familia GTR - 1973 Mazda 1300 Wagon

Widened steelies is an option.
Here's the superlite gtr's chopped on.

In other news, I have my $920 sump and have already drilled a hole in it and welded an oil return in. Also got engine service shit and the old clanger will be coming out tomorrow.David Fraser - Automotive Historian!

Hey Dave suggesting watanabes for a crown is a bit unusual for u dont u think?Originally posted by gianttomato View PostGo the Watanabes. Or slam it on some widened steelies sporting some Mooneyes hubcaps.
IMO watanabes are for small oldskool jap cars like TE27, Hakosuka, & GTO and dont suit big cars like crowns.
JZK25 The japs took many design cues on the crowns, cedrics and presidents from the yank tanks of the day therefore a nice set of wheels i feel would be something old skool american inspired but with new skool sizes

torq thrust II

rally chrome

salt flat

or maybe some halibrands

check out the galleries and see how some of the japs like to have their classic crowns

Rally Chrome looks good.
Just about to pull the old engine(just having lunch). Just been cutting the radiator support to bits to allow easy fitment of the engine and accomodate the new sized rad.
Pics tonight.
Can't get the farking front pulley off, need more 3/4 rattle gun.David Fraser - Automotive Historian!

Pics of progress.
Pulled all the ancillaries off the engine(not many) and unbolted everything ready to pull out. Then cut out the radiator support to accomodate the larger radiator planned(S13 or R32) and allow easy fitment of the engine and box. This is a godsend when you have to pull it out a half dizen times to get the mounting right.
Old Donk.

Cut out rad support.

S13 alloy rad for test fit. Fits nice.

New JZS131 sump with oil drain welded in.

Fitted to engine.

All the other new bits bolted on top.

Threw the new donk in to see how everything sat. Was considering using the alloy toyota block brackets and welding new mounts to the chassis. Can't do it, completely wrong shape. The oil filter also fouls the suspension so will have to swap for a soarer filter housing that points upwards.

Pulled it back out and ripped all the brackets and other shit that won't work off. Threw it back in with the angle adjusted and got it sitting in a reasonable spot.

Good clearance evrywhere except...

The large front pulley fouls the chassis and/or swaybar. Will ask some crown experts what they did with there conversions but am thinking of sinking a relief into the chassis to accomodate it rather than move the engine to another position or raise it.
Obligatory gratuitous turbo mockup shot.

Got a bit done in between looking after a 6 month old and sweating my arse off.
Also took a heap of measurements of the diff and front hubs to research brake and diff options.David Fraser - Automotive Historian!

Hotness. I like the middle one with moon caps and outer rings.
Looks like I have got some 16" BA steelies for free so might look for some trims like that for them.David Fraser - Automotive Historian!
