Cheers mate, only way I'll be doing it though is if I get the job I applied for, at a Porsche dealer!

The ppl at the Porsche parts counter are really nice, so I do try to shop locally, and for little cheap things like relays and stuff, it might cost $20 more, but it's more convenient.

In the case of the badge, I wanted a few other things anyway, so bought from the UK where the badge is $50 (It's $160 from Pelican, and I would have expected the local price to be $200 or so).
Ah, fair enough. Down side of cars like these in Australia, no economies of scale here. As I mentioned above I "might" be able to help there if all things go right for me this week.

interestingly i've found replacement fibreglass panels can be a lot cheaper here, until you go into RS style stuff with front air dams and all that.

Mr Fedex dropped something off today

Interestingly, the new badge is much golder/blingier than the original one.

But yes, I think a fresh new badge suits my car more than the satin black one.

Maybe one day if I build some sort of matt black widebody Rauh-Welt beast, then I will dust off the black badge, but for now I think this is the best.

Also asked Type911 UK to throw a few little things into the box, too. Wiper end caps and a new wiper fluid filler cap. At two bucks each, it seemed a shame not to renew them.

That yellowy old filler cap always bugged me :D

But er...now the rest of the wiper arms look like they need a polish

The other thing in the box was a new rear wiper. These are notorious for breaking, and I was tempted to delete the rear wiper altogether...the RS didn't have a wiper, but it also had a rear window without the hole for the wiper. What some ppl do is fit a blanking plug which is actually for the 944:

But I thought....Pelican in the US says that the wiper arms are NLA...but oddly, Type911 in the UK had them in stock. I've learned with the Hako that when parts look like they might run out soon, you grab them. Later when they really are unavailable, you regret it, so I thought nah...let's replace the wiper while they're still available. The plug, in typical Porsche-nomic style, is also half the price of the wiper arm, and that didn't seem to be good value for something that looked a little dodgy :D

The old one was cracked, and you can see a slight bend (and the crack) in the end piece. Every few weeks the bend gets quite severe, so I bend it back...the end piece is very soft pot metal, so it's quite flexible, but it's only a matter of time before it snaps off, really.

You can tell why it's a little fragile, the pot metal end piece cracks at what seems to be a very obvious weak spot.

Replacing it is quite simple, you flip off the plastic cap and remove the retaining nut. Then gently wiggle the wiper arm and it'll pop right off.

The next step is to remove the inner arm, but it slides into this rubber grommet, so is quite tight and snug. I found that if you're patient and just very gently wiggle it up and down, it'll work itself out.

          And the finished product!

I was saving one last job until tomorrow, but decided that I couldn't wait and did it tonight anyway

The 964 (and 993) have a rear spoiler that goes up and down with speed. It rises up at 90km/h and doesn't retract until you slow down to 15km/h. So with every drive it might go up and down quite a few times.

As the spoiler comes up, a flexible plastic screen unfolds, and after a few decades of heat cycles, this screen (which is called Spoiler Curtain) can split.

Mine's still holding together, but eventually the whole plastic screen can split in two. At the points where it hinges and folds, the plastic is simply just thinner, and so it has a lifespan. Since I was ordering stuff from Type911 anyway I figured I might as well sort this out, since it's a quick and easy DIY.

The screen is basically a fancy bit of plastic extrusion, and it fits to the car by snapping into a bar at the bottom, and at the top, into a lip built into the underside of the spoiler.

First you manually motor the spoiler down a little from the fully raised position. This allows the screen to go a bit floppy

Then unhook this rubber flap that attaches to the middle..

Then pop the bottom off the bar that goes across the spoiler mechanism....overall it's one of those jobs that seems really hard at first, because the old curtain is snapped into place pretty tight, and there isn't a lot of room to get a really good grab at things.

But start at a corner, and once you get the first corner off, the rest comes off pretty easily.

Same story where it snaps in at the top, it's tight but I used some pliers to get the corner free (there's a handy little lip that sticks out) and then the rest peeled off ok.

I have to say it does make a very satisfying SNAP when it clicks into the right spot :D

All done, and hopefully good for another 19yrs

in my mind i am picturing some numpty changing the spoiler curtain on a roller dyno as the car goes over 90! it doesn't end well!

Dunno if the ducktail works on the 964 shape. Maybe with lots of mods but on a stock looking car IMHO it doesn't work

I do like the RS America whaletail tho (and I am thinking about the Carrera script in blue)

RS America spoiler looks suspiciously like Porsche getting rid of left over 3.2 parts.....

I'm not 100% sure if it's exactly the same....On Rennlist they fight over second hand RSA whaletails, and then there are guys who fit fibreglass replicas. Not sure if I've ever heard of a guy who put a 3.2 whaletail on.
