Not sure how it works on the earlier cars, but with the 964, after dumping all the oil out, you throw 6L in there and start it up.Originally posted by Stix Zadinia View Post12 litres of oil and a filter... i've never done it but boxer explained it as add a few litres, run it up to tempreture add more oil, then wait, add more oil, then wait
As it idles, you throw in another 2L, which you can't do until it starts and empties the oil tank a bit (if you overfill it, the tank will just burp the excess oil into the intake manifold). Then you wait until it warms up all the way with the thermostat open, and it's not until the oil temp needle is at 9 o'clock that the dipstick is accurate, and you then add in another 2L or so.
I get the car serviced at Hamiltons every 10,000km, but I'll do a 5k oil change myself in between
I think that as long as you have the dizzy vent tube installed to vent the ozone (which was a recall item and most cars have them), then they last a very long time. I think you don't have to worry about it until 160,000km or something.Originally posted by Stix Zadinia View Posthow often do you have to replace the belt in the distributor? i heard it dies from ozone?Japanese Nostalgic Car - Dedicated to classic japanese cars

Yeah same - mineral only, I was using Swepco but was getting harder to acquire - now switched to Penrite after getting the guff on the Zinc properties of itOriginally posted by Babalouie View PostQuite.
Car does feel great after the service tho.
They don't recommend synth oil for the 964, and when I looked up Mobil 1000, apparently it's pretty good on zinc.

Surely that happens in your garage?2 x 5ltrs filled mine perfectly last time (you always get a little more than 5ltrs in the bottles) at $70 each = $140, genuine filter from Pelican = $16 and sump washer (x2) =$1Originally posted by Stix Zadinia View Post12 litres of oil and a filter... i've never done it but boxer explained it as add a few litres, run it up to tempreture add more oil, then wait, add more oil, then wait
Under $200 oil change

Yeah, they don't really make a lot of power, even when you throw bulk dollars at them. I think you'd need some serious coin to get one of these to 100hp/LOriginally posted by bigmuz View PostBecause this fancy Porsche has very ordinary cylinder heads.Japanese Nostalgic Car - Dedicated to classic japanese cars

The late Jeff Carter spent several months swanning around Europe in his 3.2 SC with his wife and later in his G series Clubsport with his son in the late 1970s/mid 1980s. Mainly camped with the 3.2, had a tight time frame with the CS. All featured in various magazines, mainly Wheels, in the day and in his book, "From the Alice to the arctic."

I don't know enough about Porkas to know 100% of what needs doing and when. I wouldn't have done the valve lash if I did the service at home, for example, but it needed it. Wouldn't have retorqued the heads either, but maybe that saves me down the track...Originally posted by Cplus View PostYeah, I was aware of the dry sump etc. and wasn't so much shocked by the cost - just Kevin would pay someone to do it!
So I don't mind having an annual service done by a Porka specialist. And if all they do is change the oil and pat the car on the bum, then fine

For the 5k oil change which I do at home, I used to use HPR30, which I found a bit thick, so I've since swapped to their Everyday Premium Mineral, which is 10W/40. It is almost as much zinc.Originally posted by Boxer View PostYeah same - mineral only, I was using Swepco but was getting harder to acquire - now switched to Penrite after getting the guff on the Zinc properties of itJapanese Nostalgic Car - Dedicated to classic japanese cars
