I think we would all like to do something a bit more modern with the engine eventually but at the moment there is enough work making the rest of the car decent.

Realistically anything more than 350-400hp is probably a bit excessive and I think we will be limited to that power figure while using an audi transaxle.

Rear suspension geometry similar to e30 or 1600, could be improved upon for sure but its not really an immediate issue.

Like Willy said, we don't really want it turn to turn into an eternal project this early in the piece. Make the most of what we have first before really improving on it.
      POWER CHIP free since 2003.

Awesome stuff I'm looking forward to seeing this thing come back to life.

Agreed with changing engines, nothing wrong with a nice SBC.
I always thought all 350 010 blocks were 4 bolt to until I started looking for one to buy, but I'm pretty sure a 2 bolt 010 converted to 4 bolt is actually stronger then a factory 4 bolt?

On books, see if you can get a copy of the book "Engine Blueprinting".
Top read and will learn heaps!

sssgtr if you can put it somewhere i'd like to acquire a copy.

Willy, I recently pulled down my first 350 on the weekend too, pretty simple bit of gear, but im assuming putting it back together will be the fun part. ... If you are looking at replacing anything, PM TK on here, he's getting me some damned good prices for my blower build so he may be able to help you out too

very, very cool. I have suggested my old man and I buy a kit car many times to restore, instead he just buys already resto'd stuff, not as much fun! look forward to seeing how it pans out.

Nice! I've asked sssgtr to upload the file to my NAS (fingers crossed it works). I'll transfer it to a web server after that.

I was searching for books last night and came across a nice DVD torrent called "How to rebuild a small-block chevy engine". It's quite modern and has heaps of good stuff. Dunno if I can post links to torrents on here, but if you search for that title on www.demonoid.com it should come up.

Just a basic rebuild at this stage. Main aim at the moment is to get the car on the road and get through all the compliance issues. After that we'll see how we go. The 350 will have ample power. It already has an Edelbrock intake manifold, 4 barrel Holley, mild cam and extractors, so should be making a bit more than stock power.

from what i see on the web , the aftermarket alloy heads are streets ahead of any factory cast iron offerings - and for the chevs would be pretty cheap: probably cheaper than getting the castiron factory heads reco'd

for an easy performance increase - probably enable you to keep it with the chev motor and still scare yourself silly- and no re engininering hassles

ie do a quick search on the web:

EDIT - wiki tells me that 90 million small block chev engines have been made !

Today's my last day in the office at work. Off to site for 2 weeks and when I come back I'll be moving to a new job. So, plenty of Google time today

What do you guys think of this DIY soda-blasting? I'm keen to give it a go.
                            http://www.aircooledtech.com/tools-o.../soda_blaster/

Also, that KBS stuff looks good.

And check this out for painful restoration. No expense spared..
But then if you can afford a genuine GT40, then you can certainly afford the restoration dollars
