Flat black is gay, its a car not a blackboard. Gloss black if black is a must.Originally posted by oioioioioiI've never said or implied everyone on that page was a deadshit - just that there's a concentration of deadshits there. Think of it like a mine, but instead of a rich vein of gold bearing quartz, it's a rich vein of spastic bearing facebook posts.Originally posted by SketchyAny peanut who thinks they could have done it better from the comfort of their armchair or work desk is a genuine mong level potato.

read thread title as "Finally backed into a steel bumpered car", was going to post something witty like "so go get it fixed and move on" but stayed for the engine swap and car pics
nice one

so... in terms of painting, if I did fix the panel work and then coat it in protec 408 or similar how long can that last without a topcoat?
Could it potentially be left for 6-12months before a rub-back/prime/topcoat scenario?
I would prefer to do it all properly this year but might just run out of money...

Anyone have any input on this? Plenty of hot-rodders seem to leave it for ages, years even, but wondering if anyone from here has any real world experience with doing it?Originally posted by Passion-Fingers View Postso... in terms of painting, if I did fix the panel work and then coat it in protec 408 or similar how long can that last without a topcoat?

cant quite remember the order or product (which makes this post reaaallly helpful) but my painter mate used to say red oxide on the bare metal, then polyurethane over the top and you can leave it "pretty much" indefinitely because the metal is sealed up proper.
do that first, THEN spot repairs to the panels, that way youre only exposing the bits youre fixing, obviously you need to be resealing the repairs after, then when finished all bodywork its prime/paint as usual.
wait for a real painter to post :p

yeah cheers GreenHJ thats pretty much what I had planned after reading plenty of HQ build threads now - seems to be the best way for sure. Strip to metal one panel at a time, epoxy prime, repair, rub back a little, re-epoxy prime, slit writs/FML moment, move to next panel.
just wondering how long i can leave the epoxy primer on its own for - i understand UV light isn't the best for it, its not a daily or anything so wont see much UV light really.
