Finally back into a steel bumpered car

Picked this 'lil nugget up today, getting pretty thin on the ground up here in the top end so figured i'd just jump in and grab one as i've wanted one for a while. only $800 and the bumpers are in good nick and pretty shiny so im happy.
Rust in all the usual spots as you have to expect for a 40 year old car. floor pans are good though.
plan at this stage is to bolt my 327 sbc in with a th350 and do some skids.
will then look at body work, but skids are highest priority at this stage.
Apparently it is a 'genuine SS' so the seller reckons, will have a look at numbers tomorrow but my guess is it is just a shitter 6 cyl nugget.

edit: shit reverse cowl is shit and is unwanted. has a faggy hole cut in bonnet tho, so will have to stay until i find a good bonnet.

Gold. If it is a genuine SS, wow, freaking cheap.

What motor is in it now? I lust after a HQ.. I love my HJ but a Q is much sexier.

even $800 for a 6 is a good buy these days as they are getting harder to find a decent one

BoganDAVE - i actually have some pro star copy's in the shed left over from a prev. project, 15x4 and 15x8's, front are HQ pattern but the rear are ford... do'h. time for 9inch conversion already? :knock:

dirty_sandwich, no motor/box, hence cheap price. pretty much all seems to be there (well, mostly in the boot and rear floor...) appart from the motor/box tho so hopefully will all go together ok.

and yeh re: price, did seem good to me too, missus doesn't agree, but meh.

ok so some moar pics. see model shit, i have no fucking idea. too many web pages with old holden people talking smack about what came with what and seems to be no real consensus.
how do i tell if this is a genuine SS? from model no. does at least appear to be a V8 of some description.

the trim code = Houndstooth Check
the paint code = Infra Red

                      both of them SS only

also the HQ80269 = 8 Cylinder BELMONT SEDAN And SS

Any other body tags with engine/transmission codes? Could end up being a decent buy.

cheers for the info tripper, i found something similar but wasn't 100% if they were SS only colour/trim.
I did some cleaning on it today - definitely was originally red, then blue and now yellow - this current paint appears to be the worse done, some is flaking off, etc. will do for now anyway.
bogans give me the shits, why not just keep it red FFS.

irsa76, no idea, probably, where would i find the other tags? i think i saw one with some ADR shit on it - is that the one? it's dark now but i'll take some more photos tomorrow.

either way it's not getting resto'd to an SS - fuck having to run a 253/m20.

Sorry, forgot the HQ SS only had the 253. For some reason I was thinking Monaro, I blame growing up in a staunch Ford family for not knowing about Holdens of this era.

Get a VT block, take a mould of the 253 casting on the side of a block, cast yourself a '253' out of devcon, stick it on VT block, build a 355

No ideas for the M21 though…
