It has to be 1/10th of the size and so much simpler now. Al left me a little message on the ECU...



I ended up settling on Wheel Vintique Solid wheels in 15 x 6. They look like the following but I've just had mine powdercoated black.



They've been fitted up with Kuhmo KU31's in 15-195/50. It was the biggest that I could fit under the front without fouling or having to cut the guards.

The engine and front end are out again and we'll be making the engine mounts and exhaust hopefully next week.

The guy really stuffed me around though as he doesn't actually carry much stock and orders from his suppliers as he needs stuff.

I'd would try Antique Tyres next time around.

Another update....

Engine mounts are done.





I've got the engine back in and the next job will be the gearbox crossmember. I dummied up the radiator and grill and it looks like I just have enough room to squeeze a pair of thermo fans behind it.

The head and manifolds on the 1JZ is HEAPS wider than than the old 202, and I was looking like I was going to struggle to fit a brake booster and master cylinder in.

I had a trawl through a truck wreckers this morning and I think the State Emergency Service has come to my rescue!



It turns out that a mid-80s Isuzu NKR have an under dash brake booster set up with a bell crank that mounts the booster at 90 degrees to the pedal.... Should work pretty nicely I hope.

Things have been ticking along slowly. The gearbox crossmember is finished and the dump pipe is almost done too.

Time for an update...

The bell crank brake set up was an uber fail.... It was quite visible from in the cabin and it would have meant that I couldn't run any sort of AC evaporater under or behind the dash. I ended up making a custom plate for the firewall that repositioned the 7" double diaphragm booster I bought just clear of the bonnet hinge, and still left enough room for a 1" VN master cylinder. I've mounted this to a VN auto pedal box.



There's actually more space than the photo suggests but it was a pain in the arse finding the right combination of bits to make it all work.



I want to run AC eventually, and as I've had to space the radiator forward, there was no way I was going to fit an air-air intercooler and AC condenser in there. In the end I made a custom radiator support that let me mount the MR2 radiator and twin thermos, but still leave enough room in front for a condenser.

I now have a water-air intercooler kit. The heat exchanger will mount where you see it in the photo. It makes the piping pretty straight forward and quite short. The radiator and fan will mount inside the left guard up behind the headlight with some ducting running up to it. I have a Bosch Cobra water pump that will end up behind the bumper. The goal is to not have any performance parts visible at all from the outside.

I don't work Fridays, so that's when I have to get it all done. I got there at 5:00 AM this morning and left at 6:15 PM..... I'm very popular at home!

Oh.... funny story. I got busted big time by No-Pics. She knew that the engine had shit itself and I'd told her that I was putting in a new engine, but she had no idea about what I was doing which suited me just fine. Well at Rally Queensland a few weeks back I was chatting with an old rally friend and he asked me about my cars so I told him about the Camaro and what I was doing with the EK. Well it turns out he was doing commentary on a PA system at the spectator point the next day and No-Pics was in the crowd waiting for us to come through when she hears over the PA system exactly what was happening to the EK in great detail.... DOH!
