i would advise against titanium retainers unless you want to be servicing them regularly http://www.hotrod.com/articles/titan...ainers-needed/

i have supertech uprated valve springs with std retainers in my engine. it has seen the 8500rpm limiter many times

Heard that and it's the reason I only bought springs and kept stock retainers.

From recent reading I found that stock springs only have around 40lb seat pressure and pretty much every single aftermarket one has 80lb. Shouldn't really matter which ones you choose and stock shims shouldn't spit with no float.

Interesting! I assume it would be the same with an overhead cam but the way they are talking about 16 valves makes me think they are talking about pushrod V8 shit and when that can be 400pound spring pressure when open its a hell of a lot more serious than the 80-140 odd pounds on 1/2jz stuff.

Titanium retainers are no good for engines that do decent km's, plenty of google stories about people finding that out the hard way.
I googled the fuck out of this topic myself, I put BC springs in my 2JZ with the standard retainers and collets, word on the forums was they were the best spring out there being made by PAC.

So, give the BC 1JZ kit a look at, they do one with steel retainers if you want new ones of those too.

I didn't google the fuck out of everything, I just ordered Ti retainers. Car does like 2000km/yr I'm guessing I'll be fine...

people seem to be of the "if some is good more is better" idea when it comes to valve spring seat pressures and go crazy with heavy springs and wonder why everything wears out quicker, its a big compromise!

Maybe if going overboard, yes! But I'm only talking about stopping valve float on an an engine with unknown KMs on the springs and has now had an issue due to spring pressure.

If I had the tools I would measure them myself "just to see" the internet seems to think factory springs are about 40lb on the seat and most aftermarket springs are starting at 80lb this is VERY very small in comparison to large V8 stuff with huge spring pressure! My boss said his last heads came with 600lb on the seat springs already installed and he had to lower it substantially for his setup.

probably no help, but I have supertech Ti retainers and dual valve springs with a seat pressure of 75lbs in the sprinter. had them in the car for like 7yrs? (3 of those the car wasn't one the road) plenty of KMs and no issues.
however the motor does turn to 9500rpm and I have 304/296 11mm lift cams, so not really apples to apples comparison...

have you ever checked them for wear? and yeah that would be a far harsher environment than glenns i assume

My sr20 has had ti retainers in it for years solid 272 cams, have checked them a few times no wear. It's a weekend only car.

Sounds like some mixed emotions on the TI retainers situation! Haha all good tho I ask because I want to hear and see what people have done to make a somewhat educated desision.

Bc springs sound like the go at the moment for just a single spring upgrade not totally sold or unsold on the TI situation yet tho...

Also went to the wrecker today on my lunch take and they had a new pink echo in! Winning for me! So took the 4 coils so I would have 2 spares for my car in the future and then when I got back to work I started on removing the LS2 setup I was running and changing over to the Yaris/echo coils (direct coil on plug with built in igniter).

Got them wired and the car running, all seems well but the test will be on the dyno with 20psi of boost I'll try and get in over the weekend and see if I can't put her on the rollers for a test hit

Still need to make or buy a bracket tho.
