Cheers guys! The plan at this stage is the bumpers are satin silver along with grille and headlight surrounds. The chrome trim around the door and rear quarter glass I deleted. (didn't bother taking pics) The rest of the chrome which is basically door handles will be left as is. Will see how it looks and go from there. I am usually the person that hates chrome bits that are painted but I am starting to like the satin silver and semi gloss block setups. I've gone this way basically because of affordability (rechroming is expensive)

I had to spray the backside of the front guards and nosecone. Thought I would spray a guard to see how I go and how well I prepped the panels..... I'm pretty happy with how it's looking so far!! Even happier with the colour choice!! Although you can tell that the panels need to be dead straight..... I was/am keen for it to be painted by a professional painter in a booth, but I've been quoted 2500 to spray it I can't justify that.

Looks great! I'll be interested to see how the satin bumpers turn out. Does it take much prep?

Killer job. Keep going. You will take care. Worst case, bit of wet sanding and polish it out

Cheers mate. Does it take much prep? Are you talking about the bumpers? If so they are being powdercoated.

Thanks mate. I am going to build a plastic carport out of drop sheets in my shed. Also was given a tip from a painter on spraying metallic. I painted the guard as I would a solid colour. He said to hold the gun further away from the panel to help avoid mottling which I didn't know about.

Spray the metallic base a lot 'drier' that you would the clear, or a single stage solid colour.
It also helps to spray the 1st coat one way, then the 2nd at 90degs to avoid tiger striping.
Lastly, some guys like to do a final 'drop coat' from a greater distance to help even out the differences caused by the way the metallic particles have laid down, but it's not required if you have done it properly.

If you look at the autobody101.com forum, there are some posts and vids by 'OldDupontGuy' showing how to lay down basecoat properly.

medium coats until you get coverage then just as your last coat starts to dull off (reducer evaporating) you lower your pressure, increase the distance and drop coat the cunt.

ive never seen a painter lay down a gold and get it right with out a drop coat

A small tip for the bodywork, use a steel ruler to check the panels stay flat all the way to the edge, a lot of cars have the panels roll off in the last 10mm or 15mm, not a good look for a car of this level.

Cheers guys! I've been youtubing spray painting and got on that autobody forum and have been reading.
Thanks SR20 KE30, I found that issue when I was blocking back the panels that most rolled off the edges. Took some time to get it right.....
Anyway after reading and youtubing I coated the underneath of the bonnet, the nosecone and a few little trim bits. Looks much smoother IMO than the guard I tested on. The plan is to spray the front guards, bonnet and wiper cowl panel separately. Then spray the rest of the car in one hit. Which will basically just have the the doors and tailgate bolted on. I think this should be easier on me as a novice.....

the guards should be on the car unless youre positive you can lay down the colour and drop coat from the same distance/at the same speed and pressure. not as easy as people might think
