not dumb. My plan for mates kinga is to grind vh41 number off and put it on a vh45 when his engine inevitably blows because usdm shitness.Originally posted by [RX3] View Postput a 1uz-fe in it, get it engineered, then put the ls1 back in and replace its engine number with the 1uz oneOriginally posted by BosshoggettIf your planing to drive this on the road and enjoy it, id suggest a second opinion, someone with a history in Australian Rally or Fink River . If your just playing dyno comps. Then ok

Just because your mate did it doesn't mean it's not dumb!Originally posted by cracka View Postnot dumb. Ok this is where I am confused. Can't you just use the weight from a 1992 lwb vit?Originally posted by CA18escort View PostBoth can put one in a 1994 swb. The magic number for LS1 is 1140kg.
The whole 1994 argument doesn't make a lot of sense to me as the car you are referring to with the extra weight is a completely different chassis number, wider body, different axles, different engine different brakes etc. chucks body shape is a se416 and the other body is an SV from memory. The 6cl is the SV620 and the 4 cyl has a different series of engine and is the SV420 even the body panels are different, it's a completely different model? So It's like comparing a vp to a vr?Originally posted by BabalouieGeez we're a bunch of softcocks...we have a 911 and we're obsessing over non-functional ducts and indicator colours

So I re read the thread and saw that the car was a 1989, but I am still interested to get an answer to the other question I had about whether a car that was otherwise unchanged but had a different engine and heavier weight in a later version, could be considered 'the same' car for modification purposes.Originally posted by jzx83 View PostSo I'm not clear whether Chuck's Vitara is in or out of the race for rego. Is it the later or earlier model?
Come to that, if the only significant change to the car was the difference in the capacity of the newer engine, could the older cars be considered effectively the same thing as the newer ones, or is proving that one of those things that breaks CA18Escort?
ie you have a brandex model 1.0 from 1989, for which the heaviest car sold was 1040kg. brandex later realised it was too gutless and released a new version on 1994 on substantially the same platform, which weighed 1140kg. The only difference apart from minor cosmetic changes, was that they added a couple of welded in braces at each end of the car, and put slightly firmer shocks in it with different springs. And a heavier engine. So reading between the lines it sounds like the differences with the Vitara are larger than this, but in principle, how much of this sort of thing would a prudent engineer be prepared to work with, having regard to not losing his house etc etc?
Ps Chuck, your target market is someone with a 94 on Vitara who can transfer the work done on the mule to their car, and then register that car. Unless they really are radically different.Cheers, Richard
