Tidy, this is a brilliant idea. Last car trailer I built with a mate by the finish I reckon we would of put around 4k into it, then needed something to pull it with.

As mentioned before - I would be getting those Wheels / Tyres check to confirm they are the correct rating...

I'm replacing the 225/75r16s with 215/70r16s to give me a bit more room. They're rated at 1000kg each. How do I check the rims rating?

It should be on a commercial light truck tyre.

Amazing work. Ended up with a two piece tailshaft? Are you going to fill the middle of the tray in?

Yeah, it ended up 1.84m long and the longest they recommend in one piece is 1.5m. If I don't fill it in, I'll fit some wire baskets

The tyres are easy to check ( stamped on sidewall) but the rims - no so easy - They should be stamped on the inside also, but due to age / rust / dirt etc - can be impossible to find...
They look like a Old school Landcruiser rim or similar - so I doubt they will be ratted to 3.5t GVM (or thereabouts)

There should be a tyre placard on the vehicle that says what it needs as a minimum..

Speak to the bloke swapping the tyres over and see what he reckons about the rims too...

I'm surprised it hasn't got dualies on the back.

Yeah they are cruiser rims. I can't find an exact match though these later model (17's) are rated to >2000kg per rim (so 8.0t GVM)....

Yeah, Later model landcruisers went 5 stud to save money - I guess 4 wheel studs per vehicle adds up to a lot - LOL

If you are getting the tyres from a reasonably large retailer - they should be able to check a catalog etc for a suitable rim that will fit and be rated high enough..
Failing that - speak to a truck wrecker that specialises in the Dyna / Coaster etc and ask them what rims are available other than the fugly factory rims..

You may be in luck and those rims may be rated high enough, but for definite peace of mind, ask the question at the tyre dealer and make sure insurance doesn't try to screw you over if you are unlucky enough to have a blowout etc... And yes, they usually have a smaller (14" I think) dually rims on the back of them... - So that would be a giveaway for a copper if they were on the hunt for defects etc..

They look like 90 series Prado rv rims (6" wide)

If you want a bit more girth, gx and above Prado's come with the same style wheel but in 7".

Spoke to a truck tyre place today. Toyota 4wd or truck rims will never be a limiting factor, it'll always be the tyres. The rims are all >1500kg rated
