    1960 Volkswagen Single Cab

I wasn't really looking for one of these! Always liked them but never actively searched for one. I missed out on a single cab about 10 years ago (at a much cheaper price!) and have regretted procrastinating on that one ever since. Then, a few weeks back I was browsing eBay classic cars and saw this.

It's a 1960 single cab with semaphores. Originally a PMG (Post Master General) truck from Benalla in northern Victoria. After serving a few different businesses, it spent some time in a paddock with a couple of other Kombis before being rescued 12 years ago by the guy I bought it off. He dragged three of them out of the paddock and probably paid next to nothing for them back then!

He fixed all of the rust underneath and then it has sat in a shed ever since. That was the appealing bit for me - all of the structural rust has been fixed. It just needs some cosmetic rust fixed and some repairs at the back corners.

Right now it's in storage until i finish up a dirt bike project I have on the go. Plans are to leave the outside as it is to a point. Fix it up, get it on the road, maybe even with the original engine for now. Then it'll get lowered significantly, some wide steel wheels and a tougher engine. Probably do a nice period style interior.

Nice. The gates look like they're in pretty reasonable shape as well.

Awesome, matte clear then make it go/stop/corner (as best it can).

these seem to be the type of car that you would think have all been either restored already or completely disintegrated in a field. It seems amazing to me that they are still popping up.

looking forward to seeing it come together.

I follow a guy on YouTube (mustie.. if forget the rest) that rescues lots of engines. His forte is vw , I can't believe how some seemingly dead ones come back to life

Yeah I like that look too. At least it can start out that way. Can always restore it properly later.

It is pretty solid. That's the reason I grabbed it. Some of these old buses are so rotten underneath it's not funny.

Yeah the side gates are reasonable but the back one looks like it's been run over! Might be savable, dunno yet.

Not sure if I will throw clear over it. Have to think about that...

They sold loads of them I guess? But I agree, it's amazing the places they pop up.

I know! They are dead simple so they dont take much to bring to life. Was watching a YouTube vid of one the other day that hadn't been going in 40 years. New coil and points and away it went!

Matte/flat clear will stop it degrading further and lock in the current coolness of the paint without looking like it's been fucked with too much (you wouldn't gloss clear it for sure!)
