What’s the factory compression ratio? Can do dirty maths from that to get a rough idea of what it should be.

For example 115psi very loosely puts you in the 8:1 bracket. It probably is meant to be closer to 9:1 so around 130psi is probably a “good ballpark”

If this engine starts it will be a miracle. A tune is wishful thinking at it's best. Still my morbid curiosity has me wondering if we can resurrect it enough to get it moving under it's own power.

Does that valve have chunks missing from it? If so, what the fuck? Has this fucker spent the last few years pinging it self to death?

              Have you drained the sump?
That pitting around the top of cylinder looks like water damage from sitting in there.
              But
will eventually go past the rings and end up in sump

And good to see ca18escort has got you onto those essential engine rebuild tools - an angle grider and drill.

If it makes you feel any better I pulled the head off a 5 cylinder turbo Volvo today and the job was way worse than that one looked to be. One plus was that I didn't actually have to take the brake master cylinder off to get the head off (it looked pretty tight).

Haven’t drained anything. I checked last night and it ran out of rego in 2014, so that gives you an idea how long it’s been sitting.

They are for a $1 Saab that you are pulling apart in the dirt under a tree beside the house. We did opt for the premium service though which included a tarp to put under the car to catch all the dropped bolts and stuff.

just seen its an aug 99 build. so its t7.if it was a pre 97 car id be offering cash for it. pre 97 manual turbo 900/93's are rare. the fact the engine fits an sb barina is purely coincidence...

Opps, that should have read "Glad to see they aren't euroaids to work on"

Interesting and good that you can get parts. I need a 93 Wagon in my life one day.
