Well it took two days but I was finally able to speak with an actual human about my problem. Unfortunately they want me to send the parts back before they'll replace them so there's no chance I'll have the car back together by the weekend.

In better news the AC fan is now wired up to the compressor clutch circuit so the fan comes on at the same time as the compressor. In theory the AC will work better whenever I get to drive the car next. I guess I need to find a couple of weeks worth of little jobs to do now that the car is stuck on the hoist?

While the car is up on the hoist I keep looking at the diff and thinking about throwing in the spare Supra LSD, but as mentioned before this means switching from a 3.58:1 to a 4.11:1 ratio. With that in mind I threw together a spreadsheet to calculate RPM vs speed for various gear ratios.

Bottom line, 100 km/h in 5th gear is 2700 RPM now but would jump up to 3000 RPM with the Supra diff. That's a pretty big jump, and because of where I live I do drive on the highway quite a lot, so this might not be the best idea.

Part of the problem is the car has a W55 transmission with a relatively short 5th gear at 0.85:1, so if I changed that to a W58 with a 0.783:1 5th that would bring my highway speed down to 2750 RPM which is pretty close to where I am now. Might be worth doing?

        You're overthinking it.

Why couldn't you do like what was suggested before? I may have missed it

Definitely could (and possibly will eventually) but I'm looking for a solution I can implement right now with minimum effort and without spending any money.

This might be the correct solution.

Do you have an W58 collecting dust in the garage? If so, doooo eeeet!!!!

I have two spare W5x boxes actually, but I don't know what they are exactly. Next time I trip over one I'll turn it over in 5th and see if I can figure out what ratio it has.

Hopefully one of them is from an A80 wiith the remote shifter, as they were the best of the bunch from memory.

Nope, nothing that modern. I did have one back in the day but I then I put it behind my 2JZ and this happened:

                    Oops!

Some more progress finally - thanks to an awesome PF dude I now have a pair of coilover sleeves that actually fit over my strut tubes:

I went over to a friend's place yesterday to get them welded on:

                      And done:

Now it's just a matter of assembling all the bits and I can put the car back on its wheels again.

Did you end up using the incorrect sized one?

No I sent the original package back to the seller.

Last night I quickly assembled all the parts to make a complete coilover strut:

And installed it in the car:

Looking good, the only minor annoyance (which I already knew about) is that the strut tops I bought for the Supra don't quite fit in the Celica because the bolt pattern is rotated 45 degrees for some infuriating reason:

I've got it setup so that it will increase the castor angle when dialing in more negative camber, so I guess it's not so bad?

                              Excellent....

So ready for its maiden voyage to the PF pissup next week?

Negative, I still have no front brake calipers. I'll follow up with the brake shop later in the week, I really need them back before next Wednesday so I can drive it to Matt Spry's dyno otherwise I'm up for a very expensive tow!
