12k will get you something decent, 10k will get you something not worth owning.

RB20 is a dog of an engine though stock, RB25 is so much better (if you can find one thats had the conversion - plenty around).

      Selling sucks, and buying sucks...

I'm trying to buy a car for my GF... Between $5-$7k. Small, reliable, economical, not a shitter... Don't want a Daewoo Lanos, or any Daewoo for that matter, not an excel or a barina...

Looked at soo many cars and they are all complete shitboxes with dents, scratches, different coloured panels...

Where are all the granny cars that have been garaged and serviced?
      I got nothing

Thats exactly what I'm looking for and believe me its no easier in Sydney.

All the good cars are just out of range at $9-10k.

I never inspect a car, coming from a regional area, i ring up and find out the absolute best price they will go, i don't make an offer. If the price they say is acceptable, i'll say i'll be down and i take the car.

I don't have time to travel for hours and look at a car then decide it's no good.

The other good side is when selling, wankers from the capital cities don't annoy you and for me anyway, the first person that has looked at all the cars i have had for sale has left with them.

Not looking forward to selling our N14 Pulsar TI - although being a stocker, it's always easier.

Selling My old R32 GT-R was a pain in the arse, ended up selling it to a dealer for $2,000 more than I paid, just to get rid of it - I was sick of all the idiots coming over just to "drive it" because it was advertised. I stated to EVERYONE who called that if they wanted to drive it, then they had to bring a $1000 cash deposit to prove they were serious. Some tried their luck with a personal cheque, so I said, no probs, come back in 3 days when it's cleared and you can drive it..

Never had a problem selling my R31 Skyline Silhouette though.. Marty managed to write it off for me instead and I got back more than I was going to sell it for - Thanks Marty !

I reckon I've had about 50 people ring about the ute, 10 look at it, and everyone go "whats you lowest?"
" make me an offer? "
then they do, I go, 200 bucks more and its' yours, they go "no"and never come back! WTF!

Southo- I had a runaway, driverless Audi A3 attempt to write off the ute on friday arvo(ute was parked in my driveway) sadly it failed dismally to do anything like enough damage now it's insurance claim time on a car I haven't driven in 4 months...
(happy that the Nav, nor the '8 was in the driveway though!)

              Rowds

1998 MX5 - Ohlins DFV coilovers, Roll bar,15 x7.5 Konig Litespeeds, Mania Intake
              2014 Colorado LT - Oversized Whitegoods. Kid/bike/track hack/horse hauler.

The used car market stinks. I had my ute on the market for a good 12 months before it was sold. I have a feeling even if I did decide to sell my Skyline it would be there for the same period of time. Everyone is interested in buying small new cars that run on the fumes of petrol... and I don't blame them.

when i sold my wrx sti i was innundated with swedes calling and sms'ing me the most outrageous offers and offers of swapping cars.

after 2-3 months of frustration and wankers eventually some guy bought it sight unseen from interstate. at the same time he was organising deposits I had 2 decent offers from 2 very decent guys from the wrx club.

it was just that 2-3 months of bullshit I had to go through then suddenly had 3 good offers. sigh

some of the things the swedes offered were laughable, and yep they'd get abusive when i said no. wankers

and what is it with guys who say "mate will you take $xx CASH???"

Who gives a toss if it's cash or cheque. mate you're not taking the car until the cheque has cleared so i don't give a toss if it's cash or cheque.

                      Oh dude..

Took me about 8 months to sell the GSR. And I got so sick of people asking "whats the lowest I would go", because after telling them the lowest I would go ($10k). They would go and make an offer lower than that. Did they think I was lying?

I'm much happier to do it by having the guy drive it, seeing what he thinks, and a bit of old fashiond bargaining.

"Whats the lowest you will go?" is such a half arsed question for people to lazy to bargain, and its downright rude when you havn't even seen the car.

Yeah I lost count of the times I went through that broken record of a phase, when I sold my last car. But then again I was dealing with animals, so I came to expect knuckledragging.

I just ignore any insulting SMS-without-having-seen-car offers, and next time I'll just tell callers the car is sold if I even get a hint of them carrying on like a swede and/or ignoramus tightarse.

Bought my old 1993 MX6 off a bloke via deceased estate for $12000 (similar ones were $15000 at the time). I had my mother drop off $100 deposit during her lunchbreak (I didn't have a car of my own at the time) to secure it, then inspected it and had NRMA inspect it the next day. Had 102kkms on it.
Distributor/ignitor fails on the way home to the central coast (thanks NRMA for picking up that fault I paid you $200 to not find).
Car served me well for 3 years, but went through crap trying to sell it.
Initially wanted $10k (I know, I was dreaming), with 150kkms on it.
Advertised on Carsales for a few months ($10 ad for ever!), and on tradingpost at $60 a week (man tradingpost is a ripoff).
Had a few ridiculous offers of like $6000, and some joyriders.
The car was mechanically A1, with all its fluids changed regularly etc.
Had very little interest for several months until I put 12 months rego and 2 new tyres on it ($1000 later...)
Eventually a chick drove over to Syd from Canberra and we took it to an inspection station for her, she handed over a bank cheque for $8500, and went on her merry way with it.
Total process took around 3-4 months. I had already bought the 1JZ Cressida for $7500 at this stage and spent a few grand getting that roadworthy. I don't even want to think about the hell I will go through if I ever try to sell it.
Looks like I was lucky compared to some of the people above!

I can understand you guys getting random wannabe's when you're selling y'know, skylines and what not, like actual performance cars. The thing I couldn't understand is the same idiots ringing me up about my old SX seca going "Yeah moite loik what mods it got eh"

Even had one dude lecture me about how I shouldn't have tried to hide an engine swap (He was dead set in his belief that 4AGE's only came in takumi-spec spoontahs and that a FWD one was laughable)

Eventually sold it to a random international student who lives around my area. I still see the car once in a while (He works at a *irony* chinese restaurant)
