Don't be a smartarse, just answer the farking question...

Most seem to run 1300 or 1600 engines - i thought they'd be similar to what you have ?? Mind you i have no interest in open wheelers as i'm too fat to fit in one... :D
The older i get, the better i was...

huh?...any decent 1600cc race engine will cost $7k+
The Chiron thing would have little change I magine from say $90K plus engine etc.

You're not the only one surprised by the $$$ involved in some of these racing classes.

No, huge dollars is the FA 4AGE 1600cc at Bathurst which was $22K and the Ciron thing seems to be a fair step above that.
You've raced a rote, you know how expensive this stuff can get if you want to play at the front or did you want to be midfield?
Most of the guys I've spoke to seem to do it for around $15k yer year, but I do not know how competitive they are or how accurate that estimate is.

I only race to be up front - why else would i have quit, like most average people working for a wage i couldn't afford it...

Top 5 on a reasonable day i can do on a budget, Top 3 forget it...

I imagine a competitive car would be say $40K plus engine and dampers. I look at the Chiron and wonder how much the older british racecars of a similar class would be to import. A Mallock P21 would be very good in the 1600cc stuff, but it is 2 generations older than the chiron.

Hard to believe, but in the mid 90's here at the State rounds, quite a few cars couldn't get a start due to track density restrictions. Providing you are not going all out for a V8 space-frame nationals monster, I think in a lot of cases it would be a cheaper option than IPRA.

Problem generally is, more a greying of the racing population and a loss of the typical mechanic/fitter and turner/fabricator type racing driver - in the Sydney rustbelt at least!

Peter Edmunson(sp?), bought in a rear engine Mallock a few years ago - currently fitted with turbo GTiR motor. From what I was told, think it was designed for a min. weight class (Supersport Vauxhall) - got my doubts the aero or suspension would be a match.

And no West/Stohr, central position American sports racers are permitted.

Guy who I crew for with a 91 F2 car said that his last motor he built was somewhere near 20k. 16 or so sounds familiar, have to double check. That is for a sohc vw golf motor, new head/crank, possibly block, argo rods, forged pistons etc. The cosworth crank in his elfin 700 was worth 6k or something. (He was most enthused that he bought the car with the motor with all the fruity bits in that one :D)

I have heard rumours (don't you always...) that west is agitating to be part of the supersports, but this is unconfirmed. They seem to want to start their own one make series for entertainment purposes.
Mallock P21 is comming 5th in this years sports 2000 series in uk against juno's etc....a good result for a 6/7 year old car.
I have been told do not even think of winning nats in <2lt SS without spaceframe car, state series might be something different.

The figure of $130,000 was mentioned, though I have no idea if that's remotely true or not.
                              It ran a pretty good 20v 4AGE.

curious choice given the cost of the rest of the car?
