curious choice given the cost of the rest of the car?
The 1600 class is limited to 8500rpm, so there's not much point in getting a BDA screamer, when a much cheaper alternative can be had from a regular road car.
Club level road registered stuff is all that is in reach for the VAST majority of people these days. I mean, $1500 helmets and throwing harnesses out every second year, event entry pushing $1000 for a total of an hour on the circuit.
I think the targa style road registered events are the only amateur motorsport that will exist in ten years time.
geeeze, Muz depressing thoughts. I think we might see a resurgance in hillclimbs and sprints. But Tarmac events are not cheap. Mate nearly always spends $28-35K per targa and last year he rolled car...so plus $25K.
I don't care a damn for your loyalty when you think I am right; when I really want it most is when you think I am wrong.

/depressing man.
I have a $300 helmet and an entry fee for a AAA event is $90. Even entry for this one hour race at Phillip Island including 2 races on Saturday is $380.

The most dangerous risk of all - the risk of spending your life not doing what you want, on the bet you can buy yourself the freedom to do it later. - Randy Komisar.

And you have to beg the fast guys to slow down so you're not excluded by the 130 rule. Sounds like a tight field of well matched cars.
No, there is one car that is stupidly quick that we race against 3 times a year, if we do the enduros. It's an ex Nations Cup car with an ex Lemans driver for christs sake.
Show me an affordable category which provides closer racing than MX5's in Australia at the moment. In Qld we have own class and there are 30+ cars and growing.

This is what came out the back of the gearbox ....
Pretty reasonable torque for a 1.3 litre engine I reckon. (unfortunately)
The car is partly apart now, lots of changes to be made.
Nope, never needed one before.
But we're likely to be using a rubber uni-joint to it, to cushion the blow for next time.
(And I reckon I'm getting better at taking good photos now, too)
It didn't twist much before breaking? I've seen splines almost twist completely round before breaking on other vehicles, is the material a bit brittle?
