But yeah, once i get down to the right weight (10kgs to go !!) and get a handle on steering a kart (i've never actually owned one, and have only driven cheap hire karts maybe half a dozen times) i'm pretty sure i'll have a run with the racers just to see if i can go alright...
James and I had our Clubman karts for a couple of years and for a while were going to Butterfly Farm every weekend. Our karts were so evenly matched that we would be within inches of each other lap after lap. Neither would get passed by the other depending on who led out in that session. After a 10min session we would be absolutely rooted. But it was the best fun I have had on 4 wheels.

And as you mentioned would cost us a total of about $10 in fuel, a tiny bit of 2 stroke oil, day fees of $25 and thats it. We would get there when it opened and leave when it was closing. I never rebuilt the engine in 2 years, neither did James. We weren't racing so didn't care. We'd rebuild it when it broke. It never did. :D Only other costs were a couple of rear sprockets (bent a few on ripple strips $35 each) and a front sprocket (about $30 as well). Bought a set of tyres when I first got it for the rear ($120) and only thing I had to do was rebuild the carby. Got it done for $75.

If I had the $$$$ I would buy another kart, except this time a Rotax. Push starting is a pain in the rear.

BTW, there is a kart trailer on Richmond Rd for sale right near St Marys Rd.

    Have fun.

I started with my first Clubman in this manner in the early 90's. Had a ball, never seemed to cost much and the fun only stopped when I blew the motor. Cost went up dramatically when I decided to go racing in 2000. The biggest thing was contact with other karts. Once I started breaking shit all the time, it got dearer. That combined with new tyres every 2nd or 3rd meeting and enigine rebuilds every 5hrs (10hr on the bottom end) made a huge difference to the expense.

I pulled it apart on the weekend so I can get it going for some muck around again. :D

I had a reasonable drive pf a couple of front running AMCAs. They make nearly 300 hp at the flywheel. Pretty fun in 800 or something kilos. I was shocked at how much grip they had on even loose dirt. And more grunt than i could use on a short track. Having said that they spend some coin on engines that wrecks the whole idea of the class. Should run a 1jz I reckon :D
