This is BATHURST, there are lots of things you can do cheaper than that but none of them will be racing around a world famous circuit where legends are made & reputations shattered for 12 hours!!!
How much od a legend do you think you are going to be in the Suzuki Swift?

Got sent the regs this morning. Can't ever run an old shitter.

i thought the drives in malaysia was sponsored by the car owner , chris o never mentioned that he has to pay ... it sounds very interesting though , racing for 12 hours ..
worth $20K at some point in the not too distant future.

I was in as part of a factory supported team until the factory worked out how much it was going to cost them and the tried to pass the costs onto us. To run in a shitty car in a shitty class - no chance of an outright, would have easily cost me $20k and left me with vague memories and nothing to sell to make money. I think, yet again, the organisers have failed to get the picture about what production racing is actually all about.
A slow day at the track is better than any day in the office.

A free twelve-hour race?
You're a very funny guy .... !
We're looking at starting up a second car in the team, possibly next year. But yes, there are other seats there but for a little more money. 'Bout $5000 I think for one of the Honda teams rings a bell.
That's a sweet deal. Edo, let me know how you go.

Drives are available for lease in the 12 Hour. I know the Al Shepherd Celica is available for a leased drive. Or even an "arrive and drive" arrangement.
Race is to Production car regs, so not any old car can run.
If I had the money I'd build a Proton Satria GTi (or lease the ex-Daniel Natoli car because I know who built it) and shit all over the rest of the class (Focuz Zetec, Citroen Xsara, Holden Astra, Toyota Echo etc). Would probably give the next class up a bit of a shake too. Despire the reputation Proton has, the Satria GTi makes for one quick Production Car in the right hands (not mine!).
Cars I know of for lease for the 12 hour include the afore-mentioned Celica, BMW 323i, Toyota Echo and possibly more. Try www.pcaa.com.au for some other info on cars available.
Bloke I know with an XR8 has managed to snare John Bowe as a driver for his team..... time to break out the website stickers for his car I think :D

You cant make a legend out of me anyway so that doesnt matter.
Bill, I'll send him a note, thanks
Steve, will do!
The reason I thought of the Type R civic is that absolutely bog stock it would be ok...you could even leave standard seats & suspension in it. Oh, its also going to have only done 10,000km so it wont need everything rebuilt like an old satria. Or worse an old RX7.
Seriously give up on thinking that you could win a class & think about something that will keep going for 12 hours...finishing that will have you well placed outright.

None of those cars are on the eligibility list. I reckon an ex Lotus Trophy Elise could be the go if the price is right. What else are they any good for except Production Sports? Seems strange that are eligible to me. Here's one. Bet he didn't get $42K for it either. http://www.my105.com.au/classified.asp?id=6368

The only MX5 eligible is the new NC, which costs more in standard trim than you could buy a beaten up Elise Trophy car for. Otherwise I'd just stick a lower tune motor in mine and take it.

ND is the new folding hardtop like an SLK. Heavier, forget it.
I had no chance anyway.
